The Best Laid Plans

Drop in and dribble on about nothing serious. Seriously a mad place to hang out. Better to avoid it if you're not in the mood!!! If you're determined to be sad, bad, mad & angry then move along!!!

My option was the knife or start my travels, so told doctor if he was that keen go for it but I would not be there.
That was 2008 and still gong and current doctor said I dont need a test so after 10 years still going and have never had a another test.
We all are different so it if you go ahead I hope all goes well as the systems are a lot different now.

All the best Erich but I'd be looking for a 2nd, 3rd and maybe even 4th opinion before I went down the removal path. The whole outlook by the more knowledgeable oncologists has changed recently so worth investigating all avenues first.

Knowing my moonie mate he would have gone to all known info and got the answer that is right for him. G man and I asked and asked lots of different Drs re treatments etc and in the end the "out is better" was the way for my little man. No worries since. Like a hysterectomy for women, it is a very personal decision and one that can only be made by the one facing it. Go for it ol Erich. I can come and assist if you like.

Dot, thanks so much for your insightful post. Those who have met Erich would know is a thinker, not a talker, and he has indeed done his research based on experiences of others similarly afflicted. His own father being one. The other being our next door neighbour whom we first met 4 years ago when we moved to RVHB at the same time.

Peter often rued the fact that he pursued alternative (mainstream) treatment in the early stages of his diagnosis and by the time he had the radical prostatectomy it was too late and the cancer had spread. He passed away 10 weeks ago. This has had a profound effect on Erich who is not willing to risk our future and his life.

We thank you all for your thoughts but, barring a revelation by the Urologist, his mind is made up. I support his decision - his body, his choice.

Again, thanks to everyone.

Good luck you two. I hope that Erich can get his issues sorted and you guys can get back to being 'On Tour' somewhere.

Hi Lesley and Erich. Whatever decision you make you will be in the hands of caring professionals and will have a 99.9% success.
Probably appropriate to re post this thread. http://www.ozervnews.com/forum/viewtopi ... ate+Cancer I am 10 months since surgery and I am very happy that I made the decision to have it removed.

With early diagnoses, you should have complete recovery and not have any problems in the future.

Cheers and Good Luck

Thanks for posting that link Chris.

I rang the Urologist in Brisbane yesterday as we had not heard from him. They couldn’t find the faxed docs from Erich’s GP so we scanned and emailed them at about 3.30pm. Received an email at 6.30pm with consultation appointment time next Thursday in Hervey Bay, a 30 minute drive rather than 3 hours to Brisbane. Happy with that response.

We are feeling positive about it. Erich has always been proactive about his prostate as his father got PC when he was 80. Had the op and lived to 89 when he had a fall, didn’t tell anyone in time and passed away from a brain bleed a few days later. ☹️

Forgot to mention when talking the other day that a nursing friend of mine who worked in surgery until she retired a few years ago , her husband had total done on advice of his guy in Bris as well as listening to Fays information from her work . That was about 10 years ago and all tests since all very good with the minor test of PSA zero. Hervey Bay much more convenient. Also Lesley Helen’s surname - cannot remember what it is to go see her in Hosp. Be rather silly fronting at reception asking to see Helen with the new hip.
Time is passing too quickly so live life to the full with your spouse/partner while you still have she/he by your side.

Kay, we have heard lots of positive stories following early intervention. It is just such a shame that our neighbour, Peter, had such a devastating outcome. It is very fresh for us and for Helen, but we keep pushing it to the background and believe Erich will have a great result.
