Maths problem

Drop in and dribble on about nothing serious. Seriously a mad place to hang out. Better to avoid it if you're not in the mood!!! If you're determined to be sad, bad, mad & angry then move along!!!

Maths problem

Post by Greynomad »

Had some idle time this morning over breakfast...
Not much reading material at the breakfast table, so I took a look at the nutritional info panel on the Muesli box (home brand from a well-known German supermarket chain).
Now, maths was never my strongest subject at school, but I think I've spotted a small problem.
The box says:
"Contains
65% Cereals
34% Wholegrain Cereals
11.9% Sultanas
2.0% Cranberries
1.5% Blueberries
1.0% Rasberries"

:? According to my phone's calculator, that totals 115.4%...
Does that mean my 750g box actually contains 865.5g of Muesli? 8-)

hmmm..... of the 65% cereals, 34% of those are whole grain serials or 34% of the total volume are whole grain cereals? No matter how you add it up it still doesn't come to 100%, so there are a few things missing on the list of ingredients.
Now, if there is a fibre count, does that include the box it comes in?

T1,
You’re not going to post that old joke about doubling your fibre intake, are you?

Ray,

mate, sorry. A well known problem. :D

Some settling may occur. It's probably written in the fine print somewhere.

Nah, Jon,
I’ve checked the bottom of my phone screen ... no cereal, just a lot of broken light bulbs.
