That’s “Volks Wagen” which translates literally as “People’s Car”... although Herr Adolf never actually managed to get it into full production, only prototypes before it was redesigned to become the Kubelwagen (literally’Bucket Car’ a jeep-type military vehicle) & Schwimmwagen (amphibious jeep-type military vehicle).
And after WW2, the first model was lacking not only a fuel gauge, but also a rear window!
