Bushfire donations

Drop in and dribble on about nothing serious. Seriously a mad place to hang out. Better to avoid it if you're not in the mood!!! If you're determined to be sad, bad, mad & angry then move along!!!

Bushfire donations

Post by Greynomad »

Our Nicole has promised $500,000
Nick Kirgios has promised $200 for every ace he serves this tennis season (by my calculations his last match alone puts $4,000 in the kitty... and the Australian Open hasn’t started!)
Elton John (net worth: $A320 Million — and who isn’t even an Aussie!) donated $1,000,000
‘Twiggy’ Forrest (net worth: $6.8 Billion) has promised $70,000,000
And what has the World’s Richest Woman, Gina Rinehart (net worth: $13.8 BILLION) donated? ... ... ... ... ... zip.
Anyone know Gina’s phone number??

Ray, I am not a fan of people big noteing themselves by announcing how much they have donated. I also do not believe comment should be made about anyone unless it is known for a fact that the comment is correct.

Not being cynical, but they are tax deductable. Nicole donated $250,000 and we donated $250,000. Poor old Josh F must be cursing the fires.

I think we all learnt a lesson years ago with the Good Friday Appeal?
What get's promised & what finally turns up are two different items.
Also what %%%%% of that amount finally gets to those the appeal was aimed at?

I did a lot of work with blazeaid in 2009 and at the end many g=farmers had seen nothing from the so called charities or the government.
If you can the best help you can give is to find a Blazeaid site and donate a few days or weeks. Its not all fencing and can be any skill including cooking for volunteers, tool maintenance, counselling, rounding up food, casing out jobs etc.
The best experience you will have and you may learn something in the process and meet some fantastic people.
Blazeaid does not receive any government assistance , not even tax exemption so if you can only donate money or it is your thing consider giving to a organisation such as this as all the money is used for helping the farmers. No one gets paid. The money is used for equipment and food for the volunteers.
Go to this website https://blazeaid.com.au/ and check it out. There are camps going or intended and there will be many more in a few weeks and there is also a section for donations.
I only wish I could still help but my health does not permit me to be able to spend a day in the paddocks any more.

I only give to animal places that I know. My friend that I mentioned prev that runs a wombat sanctuary and is out daily finding burnt animals and also having to put them to sleep. I know where every cent goes. Also called on my nursing friends to ask where they work for donations of sterile bandages, saline bags, burn cream, etc etc. Last week I was handed 84kg of medical items with the promise of more to come. Our friend's husb is a vet and he is heading to KI for a week to help with the animals along with some other vets giving their time and expertise for free. I don't care where the $$$ comes from as long as it comes and is distributed to those that really need it.

Dottie,
Lewis Hamilton (6 F1 World Championships) has promised $500,000 for rescue/treatment of wildlife injured in the fires.

F the wildlife! What about the domestic animals?
Yep, just let them suffer, pay the vet to put them down or fine the farmer for letting them suffer?
Farmer can't shoot them because someone took most of their guns off them!
