I'm So Old...

Drop in and dribble on about nothing serious. Seriously a mad place to hang out. Better to avoid it if you're not in the mood!!! If you're determined to be sad, bad, mad & angry then move along!!!

I'm So Old...

Post by Greynomad »

I’M SO OLD THAT I'VE:
• Used a wind-the-handle phone to ask the operator for ‘Grandma’s house’ (and she knew who I meant!)
• Asked the grocer for foodstuffs kept on shelves behind a counter
• Recorded a song I liked using a microphone in front of the radio, to a reel-to-reel tape recorder
• Watched black-and-white TV (with a choice of three channels) that had a rabbit-ears aerial on top
• Taken a walk without counting the steps
• Eaten food I didn’t photograph first.
Regards & God bless,
Ray

I can get five out of six. Can't honestly say that we had a phone back in the old local exchange days.

I was working at Cracow in 1986 on the comms in the area for the upgrade from the Post Office exchange to a modern system where you dial the number yourself. It was the second last area to go off a manual exchange in Australia.

Loved that Mickey Mouse Club ..................
Because we lived at the northern end of Lake Macquarie, we had about 40 miles of clear water to our south, and picked up the three Sydney channels with just rabbits ears.
When NBN3 started in Newcastle we had to have a proper aerial installed on the very top of our roof on a 10ft pole.
Had two arrays: one for ch3, one for 2,7 & 9 in Sydney.
Our house was at the base of a hill, on the opposite side to Newcastle.

All the above and our phone was a party line- 15U was ours which was 3 short rings from the Wallaville exchange owned by grandparents in the 30s-60s. Cannot remember when changed from party line though.

Agree we've done all of those listed things too, even nearly bought an Exchange out west when eldest was a baby until the vendor told us we would have to watch the baby as there were many snakes in the area.
