Irish Maths

Post by Greynomad »

An Irishman was applying for a job.
The boss says to him, “Before I consider offering you a job, without using numbers, show me the number nine.”
The Irishman thinks a moment then draws three trees.
Boss looks puzzled, “How does this represent nine?” he asks.
The Irishman explains, “Tree plus tree plus tree is nine.”
“OK,” says the boss, “I’ll accept that. Now show me 99.”
The Irishman thinks a moment then draws a mark on each tree.
The boss says, “So how does that represent 99?”
The Irishman patiently explains, “I smudged each drawing, so dirty tree plus dirty tree plus dirty tree is 99.” Then he leans back and smiles.
The boss is getting worried. He might actually have to hire this smartarse.
Then he has an idea. “OK, now show me one hundred.” he says.
The Irishman stares into space for a moment, retrieves his drawing and makes a little mark at the bottom of each tree.
The boss looks exasperated and asks, “How on earth does that represent one hundred!?!?”
In his most solicitous voice, the Irishman carefully explains: “A dog has sh!t under each tree. So dirty tree and a turd plus dirty tree and a turd plus dirty tree and a turd totals one hundred!”

The Irishman now heads up QANTAS…
Regards & God bless,
