Hey Dot...

Yesterday we drove (at 0630 hrs) out to Orange (NSW)... about 200 klms... as youngest daughter, Simone, phoned to tell us that hubby Leon was finally being admitted to hospital for surgery oh his kidneys re kidney stones. Has had his admittance day put back numerous times due to more urgent cases in front of him.

Also... youngest son Billy - 17 - crashed his dirt bike during the national titles on Sunday ... middle of a jump & another bike collided with his front wheel & sending them both to the ground. Unfortunately Billy's left foot was caught underneath the bike & he suffered a very nasty break!

Both were admitted to Orange hospital yesterday morning, hence our trip up there to keep her company.

Whilst there we took her out for breakfast - coffee break for us - & during the discussions she asked if we knew a 'Dottie' .. surprise surprise. This led on to her showing us a msg/email on her phone regarding her wrapping the kids in bubble wrap!! By the time we had finished telling her the stories about how we met 'Dottie' & the numerous hilarious incidents we enjoyed over the past 14 years, she was just about wetting herself.

Needless to say she finally connected the dots (no pun intended) regarding Dot/Rob & Lynn/ & us...

Billy had surgery on his ankle & has wires & screw holding it in place, they also found a fracture just below the left knee that will eventually heal itself whilst possible ligament/tendon damage in the knee will require further treatment in a couple of weeks once the ankle situation is a bit better. Possibly a few months down the track.

Leon apparently has considerable stones in his kidney... yesterday he 'strained' a urine dump & found 17 small stones - the surgery removed a very large stone - an accumulation of numerous small ones.

Both going home today...

The worst because they tangle up and don't get peed out.

Dad has medullary sponge kidneys and gets stones incredibly often.

Yeah, agree... oh by the way, slight error in my post... Billy's age is 14 not 17.

But if you stood next to him you'd think like I did - he's a fraction under my height of 184cm.

I have been thinking about this. I think mid-2022 might be a goer once we have all had the required Covid jabs. My thoughts are Gum Tree Lodge and Bush Camp at Howard, Qld. We spent a week there prior to discovering our flooded house! Stay 7 pay 5. Stay 4 pay 3. Powered and unpowered. There are also two self-contained motel type options for those without their own accommodation. George’s Garage is well worth a look for the mechanically minded. The diner has been fitted out 50s style and they do some catering (pizza bites/burgers) for groups.

A short 3km drive to Howard. Good meals at the pub, market first Saturday of the month, Van Cooten’s store to blow the minds of the crafters/sewers.

Check out their FaceBook page. The owners, George and Deb, previously owned the Conway Beach Caravan Park in the Airlie Beach area.

It’s for over 50s and pet friendly. It was a bit warm when we were there in early December but July would be perfect.

And just to add another layer to the 6 degrees of separation - we moved to Switzerland at the end of 1997. I joined an expat group and hooked up with a bunch of Aussies. On a shopping trip into Germany (just an hour’s drive away) I chatted with an Australian woman who moved to Switzerland 10 years previously. It turned out that both our mothers lived at the same RSL Village (Cazna Gardens) at Sunnybank Hills in Qld. Mine in independent living and hers in the nursing home. On a trip home, I visited her mother prior to the mother’s decease.

And if memory serves correctly, Tanks’ mother and mine also lived in the village at the same time.

You are correct; my Mother and my Bro-in-Law also were residents at Cazna. Wonderful place and it was operated by the R.S.L. who attended the residents with great care.

You are correct; my Mother and my Bro-in-Law also were residents at Cazna. Wonderful place and it was operated by the R.S.L. who attended the residents with great care.

It was a wonderful place and my mother lived there for a very long time until she deteriorated to needing high care. Sadly there was no place for her at Cazna and she was moved to Talbarra at Waterford West, where she descended into dementia and passed after around 18 months.
