Not enough rest areas for truck drivers.

Post by Lance »

Travellers need to consider Truck drivers when using space in rest areas

South Australia's trucking industry has slammed a lack of funding for vehicle rest stops, saying it could take up to 50 years before there are enough stops to meet the Government's own standards.
According to the SA Road Transport Association (SARTA), Federal Government requirements stipulate there must be an available rest station for truckies every 80 kilometres.

It's not a real big problem Lance. Been a while for me but a lot of SA has good, hard edges to the roads and it never seems to be a problem finding resting areas.
Balranald to Narranderra is a bigger problem .... especially after rain. Get off the edge there & you stay off!!
Anyway after my 'episode' on your old forum, it seems like we really need more bicycle resting areas & bugger the cars, trucks, motorhomes & caravanners!!! Them bikers sure get worked up?? lol :D ;)
They related to the Hell's Angels? lol

A lack of rest area space is not a big problem for me either Bruce, I park away from everyone else and certainly not in truck rest areas. ;)

The truckies are the ones with the problem, they generally can't just squeeze into a little spot somewhere............ :? .......but they have to stop and rest at given intervals.
We RVers don't have that condition imposed on us.

Gooday Vik.......
I reckon you're thinking of the work Rod Hannifey does to educate RVers and truckies towards sharing roads and rest areas.

He's done lots of videos, this is just one. ;)

Lots of common sense here...
Just wish it was compulsory to have some before purchase of ANY RV!
Still see lots of eejits when out & about...

Hume Hwy last week.
Doing 100 in a 110 zone.
"Roadworks Ahead" sign on shoulder. Large flashing arrow visible 200m ahead on right lane, pointing left.
NFI in high-performance Falcon pulled into right lane as I started to slow for approaching 60 sign.
Got up to my drivers window, then realised he was rapidly closing on a line of witches hats on his lane.
What does he do?
He didn't brake!
Floored it and pulled across my nose, with about 18" clearance!! :o
AND THEN HE BRAKED FOR THE 60 SIGN!!!
If I hadn't had my foot ON the brake pedal already I'd now have a new bonnet ornament!

I've also seen vanners parked blocking the entrance to "Truck Parking Only" RAs...
Very considerately, they'd left room for a Mini or VW to squeeze past... :x
Regards & God bless,
Ray
