The escarpment isn't a mountain, when you get to the top its then flat.
So not like normal drilling through mountains, which then go down.
And there is still as much water on the planet as always been. It cant be destroyed it can be frozen made into a gas, polluted but will always go back to being water...if left on its own . as nature intended. :D

Bernie,
Ummmm..... it can't be destroyed, but it can be separated into oxygen and hydrogen, the hydrogen combined with nitrogen to make ammonia, or combined with carbon to make methane .... all these happen in nature as well, just not real flash for the critters that live here at the moment.

As far as the flat top mountain problem, it does go down hill on the other side, just not as steep as the ocean side, so a siphon pipe system would required to get it across the flat top bit and use the down hill on the other side to pull it through ..... that's part of the process used in the Snowy Mth scheme and part of the 2.0 project ...

As far as a govt being able to see past their 4 yr election cycle to actually commit to something that wouldn't be completed until after they were no longer in office ..... Back in the days of Statesmen and those that did the hard yards for the country rather than their own personal gain, yes, you would see the commitment, but unless a new hero appears on the political scene real soon, we might have to wait until the Chinese run the show before anything serious gets done ...... Sad state of affairs I know, but it doesn't change the reality of it though does it?
