Dot, If they did that, then everyone would cheat, just like they did back in the good ol' days.
Years ago, that's how it was. You just cheated as much as you could without getting caught. Now they have a gazillion page rule book.

Re: What a great race
So, how would they police picking standard production cars for the teams to enter into each yrs racing calendar? Even back in the Bathurst 500 days the engines were blue printed along with as much of the suspension, brakes and driveline as they could get away with without it being obvious. Does the wheel alignment even need to match manufacturers specs so that matches a vehicle anyone could buy the next day off the show room floor ..... would it make interesting racing? Maybe allow some suspension upgrades, engine blue printing so it lasts to the end of the race instead of spraying the track with engine bits, and tyre choice from what road tyre are available off the rack at any tyre dealer .... that might improve tyre design for the general public rather than just for the racing fraternity. No more control tyre nonsense, that doesn't help with each manufacturer lifting their game to make a better product and opens up a new path for sponsorship.

That sounds just like how it was up until the mid 70's. We could call it Production Touring cars or something like that. No turbo cars. No transaxles . No fuel injection. Sounds like a plan!
