Rain

Drop in and dribble on about nothing serious. Seriously a mad place to hang out. Better to avoid it if you're not in the mood!!! If you're determined to be sad, bad, mad & angry then move along!!!

Rain

Post by Macca »

We have Never heard such horrendous rain over such a long period as was Fri- sun! About 1300mmsince We and mostly Fri night - Sunday. Just heartbreaking what folk are going through now with cleanup- if they can. Bloody government and BOM useless- Higgins storm chasers predicted this over a week ago. Council sent texts out Sat pm warning if major problems and some were not received till Sunday after they were standing in water in their homes. Poor SEQ water damned if they do and damned it they don’t! We have just put in a small claim with RACQ for water damage but minuscule to others.
These boat owners on Brisbane river should have enough time to get out of river, pontoons and jet skis as well, before they go floating down stream causing more damage. My rant for today!

Thats not a rant Kay. What you have said is all true. Couldn't believe that so much stuff broke away and charged off down the river.

After so many floods over the years surely the "powers" that be would have made changes to catchment areas or maybe added more of them. Stay safe.

There has been only one dam
built in QLD since theJho era and that one, Paradise, a total disaster as there was an election coming up. Stories our son tells us about the building of that dam are hard to believe- it was a very rushed build.

Bore a hole through the mountain, put in a few pumps and generators and send the excess down the Darling so they can sell it to the farmers to help pay for the tunnel and generate electricity at the same time ..... Wivenhoe 2.0 .... got a better ring to it than that other one ;)

With all the new "imports" into Oz the continual topic of being the driest country in the world, water restrictions etc and no new water catchments around the ever expanding cities. The Happy Valley reservoir in Adelaide is also a ticking time bomb, cousin of mine was engineer on the build, he quit as he reported "faults" and no notice was taken,

To do any dam building or create an inland water diversion system, it would require a bit of vision by our pollies. But it will never happen as all our current crop of elected representatives only can look as far as the next election. They all lack the foresight of previous generations.
They have allowed development on the flood plains of all our major river systems and some places, like Gympie and Lismore and a few low lying areas of Brisbane flood on a semi regular basis. The massive floods we are having at the moment have been brought on by a very slow moving weather system. Most areas around here have had nearly a years worth of rain in 3 days.

Bernie, I think it is unfortunate that we will never know. .Wyralong dam was supposed to help Beaudesert, but that area still floods. Don't think anything was going to help northern NSW though. And that was just rainfall out of the hills. You just have to feel so sad for all those that are affected.

A dam does not stop a flood once it is full.
