manufacturers known car issues

Post by Dot »

My friend has a Nissan Pulsar Hatch 2016, has done just 129k's Has always serviced by the Nissan dealership but it has been towed to their workshop saying the auto transmission is stuffed. They told her new trans could cost her $5k. Now I saw a recall notice for this problem on Google so if the dealership knew of this problem why is she expected to cough up??? They didn't even offer her a loan car so we let her have our suzuki.

Dot, tell your friend to get a second opinion. Like from an accredited automatic transmission specialist. The bloke over the road had an issue with auto trans, dealer told him it was stuffed and would cost $5-6,000. He took it to a transmission specialist. Cost about $1500 to fix it.
Unless there was a national recall, there is no obligation for the dealer to pass on info , like ' this model has a crap transmission.'
The dealers will only ever want to fit brand new genuine parts that cost a motza, same as their hourly rate. Which is always through the roof.

If the recall applies, it would be an interesting argument especially if it was always serviced by the dealer. What do the receipts say and what does the service book instructions say. Sometimes, the service book includes a requirements to check for recalls

Suzuki told Ray the transmission in the jimny was stuffed, after the pan was removed, the filter replaced and new oil, it drives again.
I wouldn't rely on the dealership doing the diagnosing of a transmission problem, a skill set way above the pay graded for the average dealership spanner swinger, they are generally the lowest paid mechanics in the trade and often because they are not skilled up enough to work elsewhere

All sorted, after some pleasantries with the "dealership" and head office people her car will be repaired under the warranty thing and the known problem with the trans. After she has had our suzuki she is going to flick the nissan off and get a suzuki like ours. Any one got one to sell ? (manual)

yep.... one advantage of always using the expensive dealers for servicing. They can't escape the "why didn't you implement the recall" question.

The Jimny we bought from you was an auto with serious transmission issues due to the dealership not doing the transmission services properly from the first service onward, resulting in a seriously damaged transmission, I doubt she wants a different brand with the same problems ... and it also needs a new lh rear window, inside trim and rear roof lining along with the replacement rear mudguard extension, the plastic bits melted from the heat when the workshop burnt down ......

also, sent you a pm regarding rego papers, the last lot went up in flames .....
