Wanted fugitive may be working in Riverina: police

One of Australia's most wanted men is thought to be working in the Riverina area as a fruit picker, police say.

Graham Gene Potter, 55, is facing charges of conspiracy to murder a well-known underworld figure and is wanted for questioning in connection to a federal drugs case, the Herald Sun reports.

He has been on the run for three years after failing to answer bail at Melbourne Magistrates' Court on February 1, 2010.

Police reported spotting the fugitive in Tully, south of Cairns, last August, where he had been living at a caravan park for about six weeks.

The man, who served 16 years in jail for the 1980 murder of Kim Barry, has in the past grown a beard and worn a fat suit to avoid being recognised.

Potter struck the Wollongong teenager twice on the head, killing her instantly, before cutting off her head and fingers.

Detectives received new information several months ago indicating Potter may be living in the Riverina area, on the NSW-Victoria border.
