Dotty, don't waste money on a new car. It will lose a minimum of 5 grand the instant you drive out the showroom door. Definitely be prepared to walk if the deals being offered don't suit you. I have done exactly that, and it was amazing how fast the dealer had me on the phone with a better offer. They want to sell the cars, just don't you seem too eager. There will be plenty of cars to choose from and the first car you fall in love with may not be the very best car for you.
It would be worth the phone call to chat with that hitch n go man in qld. He should have practical experiences and probably can tell a few stories of the cars that are not suitable for purpose. Might save you a bomb in the long run.
When we buy a "new" car, we look at things like the condition of the drivers seat and door. If it shows a lot of wear, then the speedo may have been altered, or worse, gone fully around and back! Have a slow look in the boot and check for any signs of water damage. Wrap a magnet inside your hanky and casually, run it along the sides. Anywhere it doesn't stick, is full of bog. You don't want that car! We don't have the mechanical knowledge and our nrma checks are useless, so we arrange for our mechanic to have a look at the car before we sign anything.
That's what works for us, so hope it helps you in this new adventure. Hope it's an enjoyable experience. xxx

Dot our Suzzi is a June 2007 model its a four cylinder We used to own a 2004 six cylinder but we towed a caravan with it back then.
But as we were not going to tow with the new one [to us] we only required the 4 cylinders, plus cheaper rego. We acquired this one about 3 years ago. It hasn't missed a beat. One new battery and just recently 4 new tyres, since the warranty ran out I have done the services.
Bernie.
Current odometer 139.628 Ks and 72,300 of those we put on
PS: its red so faster than the others?

David I have received my letter from me, it was a very polite one to be sure, We were given a test drive of Keevo's grand Vit whilst at 40 mile beach and we both were impressed with it.Our present car is still going along ok but it is a bit tired and can't be towed. Our female Galah (Nora) has been to the vet as she was on the floor of the aviary when we got home all puffed up with her head under her wing so off to the vet yesterday, she was very weak and no fat on her so she had a jab in her breast muscle and has another tomorrow. She is in the small cage which is away from her husb (Norman

) and their boys (Chris & Cringle) so she goes in the garage be kept warm and quiet till we know what's going on. Miss meow also had a check up after her Nephritis attack when in Carnarvon, so she also had bloods taken and will know her results tomorrow. Never stops does it? Even had the pleasure of experiencing that stuff that falls from the sky known as rain but only a few drops was had.

Dottie,
Our Suzi Jimny follows us around on a Tilta-Trailer.
Reason: I'd rather wear out two cheaper trailer tyres than four expensive A/T tyres for no benefit/enjoyment.
Unloading from the Tilta is a snap, as is loading & lashing down.
The Jimny weighs only 1 tonne, so is barely noticeable when touring. Trailer is 300kg.
The Jimny is more basic than the GV, although even the 3-door GV is quite a bit heavier. The 5-door GV is too heavy for the single-axle Tilta (1500kg limit). The twin-axle Tilta gets you into major engineering & by itself is a significant burden to tow, let alone with a vehicle on it!
So it depends on what you want to do with your toad. If it's just a shopping cart for touring on bitumen or good dirt once you're camped, any small car will do. If you want to visit the Bungle Bungles (with 13 creek crossings
) or go haring down NP fire trails, the Jimny will go places that Patrols & Land Cruisers can't, because it skims over the boggy bits where the 2-tonne-plus behemoths make a meal of it. The GV might be able to keep up with the Jimny, but I've never had the opportunity to test it.
Proper Low Range means it will literally climb brick walls (well, 12" vertical rock-faces anyway!
) Enough torque to do the tough rock-crawls, too.
And fuel economy with the 4cyl 1300cc engine is amazing!
The short wheelbase means the ride is a bit choppy over rocks, but it rarely gets hung up.
Our 2007 model has alloy wheels, power windows, auto trans, a/con & good seat design... so comfort is good.
When you visit your Suzi dealer, ask for a comparitive test drive of the Jimny & GV before you decide. $20,000-odd is hard to beat!
Your choice. Have fun.

Come on boss let's know how old fashioned you are?BruceS wrote:Yes Ray, and she can back it up if George tells her the wrong directions!!

Not going to go the trailer way because there is no way I could back with that on in a
"situation"

Because our present car is getting tired we need a comfortable yet easy to tow if we choose to.
G once gave me the wrong directions up some goat track, if a trailer was being towed we never would have been able to get it off (the trailer)let alone back down.

Re: Banal .. Open to any topic on and off topics etc
Friends have a long bus and a long trailer with a 4 x 4 laundry etc inside. Turned down a country town back street to get off the main road and discovered it was a dead end. They couldn't drop the trailer as there was not enough room left to get the bus turned around so 3 hrs of back and forth inching the whole rig around....... no idea why he didn't simply reverse out the same way he came in but....... The moral to the story, it would have been simple to drop an A frame, reverse the car out of the way, turn the bus around, rehitch the A frame and drive on as planned, a different situation if solo, but with 2 drivers it make a lot more sense to A frame if you can.

Re: Banal .. Open to any topic on and off topics etc
We had a jiminy on a trailer. Working on aframing an older model pajero.
Jimmy was great, but, the trailer is another vehicle to go wrong. The setup only needs to be done once, then after that, its easy, whereas trailer, you constantly worry its gonna shift, come loose etc etc etc.
We also found the jiminy was quite snug inside, passengers would get beaten up on the rough stuff. I suppose I could have slowed down.
