Ok sitting here after tea listening to the night sounds and there is one that has us beat. I say it's a bat G says bird. It sounds like a shrill chirpy sound, something flew off but the sound of the wings was too loud for a bird. Can't see anything when we shine the torch into the trees?? Are there bats in this area? and no mother in law or wife jokes either

Dot, There are colonies of 'fruitbats' or 'flying foxes' all over the place up here. When the moon comes up you will probably be able to see their silhouette. Then again you probably will be asleep when the moon gets up. It was moon rise at about 12.15am this morning when I was coming in from work. I can't tell what noise they make anymore because of industrial deafness. Then again it may be Curlew but they usually run away.

Nup not that one Derek, when we went outside all the action was in the trees and when what ever it was flew off and returned the noise the wings made was different from a bird as we know them. Right now it sounds like they are squabbling. I have put a peach outside so we shall see how that goes during the night. Now going to watch a DVD. Yep Mrs Brown's Boys Series 2. comp of Mr Derek..

If the peach is gone in the morning then a possum probably took it. If it is bats then you will be able to tell by the bat s**t all over the MH in the morning. And if they are squabbling then it is bats for sure. Don't go near them, there is a potentially nasty virus that they carry and can pass to you when handled.

We had some very big bats in the gum tree out the front. Margaret often got the shits and threw things up the tree at them, stick the hose on them, anything to shut them up so she could sleep. Cut the tree down, that fixed 'em, I wonder who has to put up the bloody things now. No more acid craps on the cars, no more cockatoo's tearing the things to shreds a leaving a yard full of branches and leaves..... but I guess we won't see the Gang gangs now, maybe they will come trash the Illawarra flame tree next door though. Beautiful birds to see on the wing close up, huge black cockatoo looking things, make crows look like sparrows, you'd know it if it was a group of them.

Hi Dot
If you are still at Casino
There is a huge colony at the river right side of bridge as you are going into town from the village
