We have room for the 2 bottles but B. seems to think that only one is needed with the other 2 smaller ones he likes to carry

I'm very surprised that a van of your size only has one gas bottle. We do find our gas bottles last ages with the compressor fridge which is probably the logic B is using. It's just the convenience of quick switch from the empty one to the full one that appeals for having two.

That convenience is good when the water hasn't boiled and it's raining outside.........
One reason I have 2 X 4.5's and a flip-over switch.
Just do it B........ !!! (if you want that cuppa in bed!)
