If it's a root canal filling there is no nerve so no tooth ache, but a real risk of infection and an infection in the gum, not good, so it's off to the dentist for you my dike haired young lady

Thought you lot might suggest that, we were going to leave here on Tuesday, and this is a reason to have a tow car. Hope the dentist don't have waiting lists a month long. Shall see how we go then. Yes Terry no root pain

but the sharp edge of the tooth is the part I can't stand.

Steve, there are good dentists around, it just takes a bit of research. I have a lady dentist, who is Chinese....small hands and is very gentle. (not just what to look for in a proctologist!)
Dot we are n the same boat. I just cracked of the edges off a crown. I can hear the dollar signs rolling past me as I type! bugga
As this is the second time this crown has cracked, it will have to be replaced..bugga bugga

My sad and sympathy seeking story, Deborah, goes back to my childhood. We were very poor and, as such, qualified for free treatment at the Adelaide Dental School. Need I go on?
Suffice to say I am psychologically scarred (it would work with one or two r's) for life.

Steve,
My take on dentists is much worse. Both my father and grandfather were dentists. Dad had a Sydney degree and was very gentle, but the old man had served only an apprenticeship and he was brutal It was the old man that I had to spend every school holidays as his dental nurse, so that his nurses could have a holiday. So right from the time I was fourteen, I rarely had any holidays...brutal times they were. But now I have my lovely Chinese lady who is so gentle and kind. Her surgery was closed last Friday, I left a phone message, expecting her receptionist to ring me Monday. No, lovely dentist rang me Friday night as soon as she found the message and spent half an hour on the phone discussing how best to treat my broken crown!
I don't love my dentist by any means, but I have no real reason to fear her treatment either.
Dot, if you get a tow car, you are then no different to a car with a caravan, only in your case, the caravan would be the tow vehicle!

Sat in the dentist chair for just under 2 hrs while the nice young dentist (girl) tackled the problem tooth. After an X/R and a bit of probing it was decided the best thing to do with it was to remove it

OK so in went those nasty injections and the marathon began in earnest, nudge, poke, drill, probe,, repeat and so it went until another X/R was called for then the knife was to be employed

More drilling, yanking etc but the thing was just shattering so she said she would have to drill the little sucker out. I was just about to nod off and she would say "are you ok Dot"? mmmmmm was the reply, anyway after all was done and dusted I emerged into the waiting room where Catriana burst into laughter at my appearance, to put it bluntly I looked like I had all my screws missing

She kindly took a pic and no doubt Chuck may post it later on. Then she had to be my interpreter at some of the shops for me as my mouth was packed with gauze and the numbness of the lips was also in dribble mode. Ywas ok till the local was wearing off and not only the jaw was throbbing but also the head was a banging away so it was straight into the pills and a lay down. Sat up to sleep and this morning there is a slight resemblance to a chipmunk, hopefully tomorrow will be ok to get back onto the road again. So $535 later hopefully that is the end of this tooth that has cost just over 2k since it's first treatment. I see no point in having root canals done at all.
