Don't know how people can live in those small towns with prices like that No Coles/Woolies either just the privately owned shops Like other places they probably see the tourists walking in the door, the info centre was very good.. We camped right on the intersection a few ks out of the town near the roadhouse, loved listening to the trucks all slowing down. We went into the ALDI (got nothing)then into Coles in Swan Hill bought bread (Bakers delight), milk ($2) meat esp 2 huge T bones $11 but they just melted in the mouth, bananas $2.99 kg. Even did a runner, didn't see the ticket required sign for parking either so hit the road quick smart. The Bushman has not missed a beat Shirley, very pleased indeed.

Just stopped for lunch, left Kerang and headed for Boort then onto Charlton. Beautiful warm sunny day, the road is ok with the usual humps and bumps but traffic is sparse. Miles upon miles of irrigation channels for what we have seen is grapes and olives. Farmers sewing seeds but what gets me is the amount of crops that need so much water ie cotton & rice seeing as Aust imports so much crap in the way of fruit /vegs etc why don't we use the land and precious water to grow our own food?? Lunch is over so heading off now towards Charlton. Could not have ordered the weather to be any better. :D

Because rice and cotton are worth more than oranges and apples, and take less looking after once the paddock has been ground planned to minimise the amount of water required. The Aust govt allow cheap fruit into the country as part of the free trade agreement, in direct competition with Aust growers, but rice and cotton fetch a premium price overseas so there is no product dumping using the free trade agreement. The farmer is only there to make a profit, they don't do it for ecological reasons, the govt would need to wake up to themselves and forget their ideologies and do what is good for the country for anything to change... and you already know how likely that is

I know the $$ is the lord of everything but it does make one wonder, know it's idealistic but when I get told there is no water to do abc or the farmers say "my cows are dying" why can't they grow feed down here every few yrs I dunno, just pees me off a tad. The road from Warracknabeal to Dimboola is absolutely the one to be avoided at any costs. Ruts the size of the grand canyon, undulations so bouncy I am going to have a go of suing the council for the stretching of my firm but dense boobs, they now drag on the ground  . Now stopped at the Lochiel Rest area just out of Bimboola, looks like we shall be home by Friday. Terry I sat on the very spot where I whispered those magical words in your shell like ear some yrs ago, Oh the memories came flooding back esp of the shocked look on your face.   Good luck norman when are you off home? :(
