Travellers to sample hospitality

Post by Kit Kat »

LEETON will play host to dozens of visitors later this year when the Australasian Touring Caravan, Motorhome and Camping Club brings a national rally to town.

Up to 60 caravans and motorhomes are expected to take part in the rally, which is held twice a year at different locations.

Leeton was chosen for the event after club president Brian Kellerher paid a visit to the town in 2008 and thought it would be an ideal spot.

Preparations are well underway for the rally, with participants set to spend eight days in Leeton from October 17 to 25.

They'll visit places such as Gogeldrie Weir, the Roxy Theatre, Lillypilly Estate Winery, as well as a general tour of the town.

Club committee member Joy Mayhew has been busy putting a schedule in place and can't wait to return to Leeton for the event.

"Our members will be coming from all over the country to take part," she said. "Leeton has so much to offer, it's looking like a great place to hold a rally.

"We have two of these a year and we just held the first at Swan Hill ... our members spent about $45,000 there."

The club has been around for years Dot, but has never been regarded as one of the major players. They're often referred to as the alphabet club due to having such a long name.
Here's a link to their website, I believe they also have a forum of sorts http://www.atcmcc.org.au/

I would imagine any small town (population ~8000 depending on who's lies you believe) would sit up and take notice of an extra $5000 plus topping up the tills.

Experience is a wonderful thing. It helps you recognise a mistake when repeated.
