Extra Drawer storage

Post by Greynomad »

I reckon we all need more drawers in our m/hs than they are fitted with.
Here's how we tripled the storage in one drawer.
Everyone has a 'third drawer down'...
Top drawer: Cutlery
Second drawer: Cooking utensils
Third drawer: Odds & sods used occasionally.
And it's usually a shambles.
We measured our drawers and found a plastic cutlery insert of the right size. I trimmed the long sides so it would drop in and clear the drawer frame, while remaining on top of the drawer sides. This created a sliding carrier for the more frequently used and smaller items. As a bonus, the plastic insert came with a sliding insert of its own... so we have an insert in an insert in the drawer, which has a larger cutlery insert to organise the larger items!
( :? Are you still with me?)
Here's what it looks like:

Note the spelling... ;) )

Wonderful! I notice there is even a "Bills here" section?
Did you copy that off Norman's Iveco? (I already inherited one of 'em!)

Never saw any other traveller — m/h or caravanner — do anything like this.
Just happened to notice that cutlery inserts were roughly as long as our drawers are wide.
So measured accurately and started taking a tape measure to shops. Found a fit and modified it to slide.
Simple solutions are often developed by many people independently.
Got another one — when I take the pics — which WAS shamelessly copied from something I spotted near an unoccupied van a while ago. Made my own mods (improvements?) to the original idea, though. Couldn’t get close to the original, so came up with my own solutions.
Didn’t have the opportunity to quiz the owner, but if I knew who it was I’d credit him/her.
Will also re-post here another ORIGINAL wrinkle on a common camping accessory which I posted on the C#%A forum coupla years ago... later. 🤗
