Avian Visitors

Drop in and dribble on about nothing serious. Seriously a mad place to hang out. Better to avoid it if you're not in the mood!!! If you're determined to be sad, bad, mad & angry then move along!!!

Thanks George, so I sometimes nesting birds aren't Butcher birds then ..... the brown feathers and meat eater beak are similar though ....

the call of these birds is very loud, almost ear piercing when up close .....

Just realised after watching those videos that butcher birds have a seagull painted on their beak, same as all magpies do.

Don’t laugh, Bernie.
An Avian specialist at a WA zoo (can’t remember where, but not Perth) told us, when we commented on the different call of WA Magpies, that if we transplanted a Victorian Magpie to WA, they would not be able to communicate! Even the alarm/danger call is different.

You just have to listen to the way they say that crow call that got Graeme Kennedy a long holiday from the TV networks  ..... can you imagine a crow from NZ trying to get by in Australia ... well .... anywhere other than Bondi?

Never will happen.... who'd name their NZ son Claude? I rest my case.

Ray, have even noticed the maggies down in Port Fairy sound different to the Melb ones.

Not to mention the inner city ones; they tend to has more of a whistle. Possibly due to their missing front teeth.

There is a family of Stone Curlews living in our street at the moment. This pic is from one of the neighbours front yard. I sometimes see them bedded down in the gutter at night. They dont seem to worried about cats or dogs wandering around.
