T1,
Regarding the licence thing:
You could use our address to switch to a Victorian licence.
When I had to go for an MR to drive Girt (8.1t), the first examiner thought I wanted a career change to truck driver.
He failed me for changing gear in mid-corner when, unfamiliar with the test truck’s manual box, I selected 4th rather than 2nd.
My instructor worded up the second examiner ($700 later ) that all I wanted was to drive a motorhome with an auto trans. When I made a few non-lethal errors, all he said was, “I wouldn’t do that in the motorhome.” and passed me.
Mind you, our previous motorhome was a Coaster. Same length as Girt, but light enough to require only a car licence... so I was used to cornering in a long vehicle, just had to adjust to longer braking distances.
On the medical side,
I was on some heavy duty meds to fight the cancer, and couldn’t concentrate for more than one hour while driving.
My oncologist agreed to certify me safe on the road provided I limited my driving time accordingly.
(SWMBO did the majority of the driving. She has had an HR licence since starting teaching, as her first [state] school owned a 44 passenger coach for excursions & paid for teachers to train as drivers.)

T1, it has all been said, but you know we are all hoping for the best for you and Margaret.
Only you can make the big decisions that are the right ones for you both. It certainly would be sad to see all the knowledge go up in smoke. So hopefully you will find an answer and have someone sharing all of your extra special training and experimental stuff.
Best of luck with all that you are both dealing with. xxx

Do you know something I don't? I thought I was just having eye sight problems, not headed off to the crematorium ...... or the incinerator out the back if Margaret decides to cut costsdream4red wrote: ↑Wed Jun 10, 2020 11:19 pm T1, it has all been said, but you know we are all hoping for the best for you and Margaret.

I guess Margaret and I will have to sit down in the warm with a bottle of Fireball or Dubliner and discuss the options ..... maybe the Fireball, the Dubliner cost me a TV last time

Where we get a bottle of Jennie from and would she be interested in the T/A vacancy if we decide that is the way to go? The Genie in the bottle went up in smoke ages ago, must have been a Lucas productMrcoolabah1au wrote: ↑Thu Jun 11, 2020 12:19 pm That P word might be just around the corner have you got a Jennie in one of Margret bottle

I really feel for you and wish I had an answer for you about how to carry on carrying on ..............
Unfortunately we're in Australia and that means it's just not worth employing workers any more.
There are subsidies but they run out just as you finish training a person up so you have to find a way to sack them & start training the next one.
Just not worth it.
I have a son who is fully qualified in electronics via the Navy.
I have a grandson who is busting his guts to get into electronics.
I'm not sure what your job would fall under? Auto Electrical?
When you start talking annual leave, super, public holiday pay etc etc it's just too much.
Got your cat , get on the pench, do the youtube stuff if ya can.
You would go nuts trying to teach all your tricks to a new chum unless ya won the new chum lottery...
I went down hill like that with arthritis and I couldnt hobble on to a job moan and groan getting up, cant kneel etc, "Can ya lift the drain cleaner out the van for us mate,I'll take $5.00 off the bill for ya"
All good things come to an end...

I don't know about work in SA but when I was in Vic and came down with PolyMyalgia Rheumatica (PMR) and went on a disability pension, I put on a young lass from "Work Experience"
Then I found I could do the same with a "Mature Age " student.
It might be worth looking at.
BTW , although at the moment I'm in WA my license is Vic HR , (heavy Ridgid) and as I'm legally inerrant ( nomad) I get to keep the Vic license.

That one only seems to refer to 85yrs old plus and driving assessments if you hold anything above a "c" class licence, but a health professional can notify the dept that they consider a driver should be reassessed at any age or class of licence ..... sounds easier than the NSW requirement actually.
I will be guided by what the eye specialist says in future mths, if the eye sight gets bad enough I guess even a car licence is out of the question. I doubt I'm in good enough physical condition to handle long haul truck driving anyway so possibly down grading the licence to a medium rigid, 2 axles maximum and a 9 tonne trailer. That way I could still drive the container/car carrier truck and the big bus if it ever gets finished. I doubt I'd ever want to step up to a tag axle coach/motorhome, 40 ft plus just becomes a liability trying to find some where to park once you add the towed or a trailer.
