As long as you did not drive them off the sealed surface......

They had the "flexitor suspension" ( worked in rubber blocks) and the 4WD only worked in low range. Without any sort of diff-lock they would get stuck by spinning diagonal wheels.

I agree. we used to tow the 17 pounder anti-tank guns with Jeeps, and then the Army in its wisdom changed to the Austin Champ.
The Champ had a snorkel along the side of the bonnet and when extended the vehicle could ford through 6 ft of water, but would bog in 2 inches of sand or mud.
We used the Austin Champ to muzzle tow the 120mm BAT guns. (B.A.T. = Battalion Anti Tank), that was around the 1960's.

Yep that's them Keith.......there are some nicely restored Champs around....some usually at the yearly military vehicle gathering at Corowa NSW...

Another point Vic--
It took workshops up to 8 hours to change the spark plugs because they were all sealed to make them waterproof.
Beautiful Rolls Royce engines.
