no point in even promising it with no plans to deliver ......
Terry, mate. ..... Just promise money to fix it and never do. Keep the punters at bay while their life and environment gets worse and worse.

Ya gotta wonder just who would want to win the top job with a possible war with Russia, China and the environment on the horizon ..... They would want to actually do something that was going to be in the best interest of all Australians for the long term, not just a select few looking to get short term gain ......

We don't have any "Statesmen" coming up through the ranks that I can identify, I can't see a collection of independents getting together enough to actually achieve what is required for the long term good of the country .......

Gough Whitlam was the last and look what happened to him ...... If Charlie gets the royal's top job after what he did to Gough Whitlam, at least we should become a republic .......

You'll never ever get another "Statesman" now that the media & social apps run the world.
Churchill & Menzies even would have had trouble lasting one term.
Whitlam was doing a bad thing & deserved what he got & if Putin was here probably would have faced a firing squad.
You're worried about the Chinese owning so much in Australia but the Arabs nearly owned ALL of Australia.

Interesting, what do you consider Whitlam was doing that was bad? While he was in the top job, more infrustucture for less $$ was built than any other person in the top job has been able to achieve.

Here's some official figures on Foreign dealings in Aus
And here are the top 10 source countries for foreign investment in Australian agricultural land at June 30, 2016:

• UK – 27.5 million ha (52.7% of foreign-owned agricultural land, or 7.2% of total Australian agricultural land)
• USA – 7.7 million ha (14.8% of foreign-owned or 2% of total agricultural land)
• Netherlands – 2.98 million ha (5.7% of foreign-owned or 0.8% of total)
• Singapore – 1.9 million ha (3.6% of foreign-owned or 0.5% of total)
• China – 1.5 million ha (2.8% of foreign-owned or 0.4% of total)
• Philippines – 1.1 million ha (2.2% of foreign-owned or 0.3% of total)
• Switzerland – 1.1 million ha (2.1% of foreign-owned or 0.3% of total)
• Jersey – 0.9 million ha (1.8% of foreign-owned or 0.25% of total)
• Indonesia – 0.8 million ha (1.5% of foreign-owned or 0.2% of total)
• Japan – 0.7 million ha (1.3% of foreign-owned or 0.18% of total)

This is supposed to be accurate.
But if you ever get to the Hunter area NSW just have a look at the UAE horse breeding stations, they're not even listed here.

Putting a dollar value on each hectare would change the ratings a fair bit I reckon.

But then, what commercial/survival value is and what resale value is are often at polar opposites ..... A spot where you could grow enough to live on but highly unlikely to be bombed or over powered by foreign troops would be the most valuable piece of real estate anywhere ....

Seems a lot have forgotten exactly why Whitlam was 'dismissed'.

I wasn't referring to how many hectares the Arabs o0wned or would have owned. It was the Billions of dollars in Arab loans that almost happened to keep running the country.
Loans that needed to be approved & never were but 'someone' was pulling shonkies to try & circumvent the system designed to catch the crooks. (& it did!)

(Gov loans to continue to run the country)
