SWMBO bought me this boot-puller she spotted in an Op Shop t'other day.
It was covered in rust & paint spots, but the angle grinder & wire wheel made short work of that.
Two coats of spray enamel later… ta-DAAAA!!

Further work has been done on the final (?) garden bed in the yard…
Eastward view.jpeg
The view eastward. Wisterias planted in raised beds, arbor rock base spread (matches driveway) with brick retaining border. Other plants beyond.
Westward view.jpeg
View westward. Dethridge wheel in place, Bougainvillea planted in rock bed, some other plants in. More to be planted in the next few days. Pix will follow…

Looks a big garden to look after Ray, you'll have to employ a gardener.

Hi Shirley, Ray is going to be busy full time when the rocks start to grow.

Hi Shirley,
Yes, it’s big. The biggest bed we’ve developed.
Total length is 19.5m, the rock garden is 5m x 10m, and total width at the arbor is 7m.
Reason for the large rock garden is that a previous owner had a granny flat on the site. They must have had the soil sterilised, as we’ve spent hundreds trying to grow stuff there without success.
Our planting starts just beyond where we reckon the ‘dead zone’ ends… at least, that’s where the grass was growing.

Tanks,
Why do you think we put the rocks in? Cos the rock gardens in the back were growing baby rocks! 🤣
Hopefully the sterile soil out front will stop further multiplication. 😜

I'm sure your garden is beautiful Ray, sounds as though you'll have no problem with weeds growing through the rocks, great idea to cover the dead soil area.

Not content with planting out our biggest garden bed so far, the Head Gardener (SWMBO) has begun renovations to an older bed we cleared & replanted not long after moving in.
She has decided the roses were planted in the wrong place, and is preparing the soil for moving them after pruning in late July. Holes are half filled with ‘matured’ horse-poo & covered with good compost, then left a couple of months before plants inserted.
The roses will be redistributed over the whole length of the bed & brought to the front. Irises will be planted between them with something taller against the fence. (TBA)
(🤔 A challenge, as the fence runs North-South, so the steel panels get pretty hot with full sun morning and afternoon.)
