Gummints & flags

Drop in and dribble on about nothing serious. Seriously a mad place to hang out. Better to avoid it if you're not in the mood!!! If you're determined to be sad, bad, mad & angry then move along!!!

The Waitangi flagstaff marks the spot where the Treaty of Waitangi was first signed on 6 February 1840. The flags that fly today are the three official flags New Zealand has had since 1834 – Te Kara, the flag of the United Tribes of New Zealand (from 1834-present), the Union flag (from 1840-1902), and the New Zealand flag (from 1902-present).

Hōne Wiremu Heke Pōkai, born Heke Pōkai and later often referred to as Hōne Heke, was a highly influential Māori rangatira of the Ngāpuhi iwi and a war leader in northern New Zealand; he was affiliated with the Ngati Rahiri, Ngai Tawake, Ngati Tautahi, Te Matarahurahu and Te Uri-o-Hua hapū of Ngāpuhi. Hōne Heke fought with Hongi Hika, an earlier war leader of the Ngāpuhi, in the Musket Wars. Hōne Heke is considered the principal instigator of the Flagstaff War in 1845–46
Looks to me like we could learn a thing or two from our neighbours across the ditch when it comes to the national hierarchy of who's flag can be flown from the top of the harbour bridge .... seriously people, there are a lot of issues far more important than what flags fly on the bridge ..... it might mean we need to look a bit deeper into ourselves and try to deal with our life long learned racism ..... there was a comedy show on the other night and racism came up, naturally Australia was mentioned and throw away line was, it seems only the white ones are racist ...... it got a laugh in Canada, would it get a laugh here????

It certainly does get a laugh here in Aus.
But then most Aussies are a cynical lot anyway, they're smart enough to see that Racism is perpetuated by Both sides of the dividing fence.
Upset a non-reflective for whatever assumed reason and listen to what you're being called , And if that aint a racist rant, what is !

Good come back Ron, I'm sort of wondering what what was said in a few camps regarding my posts ;)

Personally, I'm far more concerned about a Chinese flag flying on top of the bridge and no sign of any other flags .... now that would be something to get upset about .... if yo were game of course ......

SWMBO has been saying that for years.
Forget worrying about gender diversity, aboriginal rights, etc…
No need to panic about Putin, it’s the Chinese. And they don’t need to invade, they are slowly buying the country, one infrastructure sector at a time. They are already major owners of our power grid, telecommunications & water services. All they need to do is shut down the stuff they own and we’re up the well-known creek… not only without a paddle, but probably without water to paddle in!

I remember my dad saying we will be under the "yellow Peril" when I was a little bugger and I always believe what my dad said. It would be interesting to see how the PC numb nuts, those BLM marchers, let alone the one or two so called "first nations people" get on playing the racist card. Try it once then you are chop chop liver. Q/ who gives the go ahead for our countries assets to be sold to other countries? .

Dottie,
It’s a gummint body called the Foreign Investments Review Board.
On their track record, I reckon it should be called the Foreign Investments Approval Board.

I'd be careful about alienating the mobs that were here before Cook and Phillip arrived, the true indigenous peoples would make great survival trainers and stealth bush soldiers that could train the city slickers into how to fight back in a terrain completely foreign to the enemy.
