Parental Responsibility??

Drop in and dribble on about nothing serious. Seriously a mad place to hang out. Better to avoid it if you're not in the mood!!! If you're determined to be sad, bad, mad & angry then move along!!!

Parental Responsibility??

Post by Greynomad »

I find it hard to have any sympathy for parents who take young children into war zones, then rail at the Australian Government when they reportedly die in a jail for IS fighters.
I believe that, no matter how strongly a parent feels about war in their home country, their first responsibility is the safe upbringing of their children.
Taking an 11YO into an active war zone does not comply with this responsibility.
As the kid who prompted this rant was 18 when he reportedly died, IN A PRISON FOR IS FIGHTERS, the question arises: he was old enough, had he joined IS?
His parents are reported as having taken the family to live in the ‘Islamic Caliphate’.
Seems probable that the son would have been indoctrinated by his parents.

Maybe understand the full story. The powers separated him from his mum because the was 12 and put him in the child section of the adult jail.

They assume he was killed in jail.

There are other Australian kids there who are about to be separated and follow the fate of going to the jail.

Yes. the parents should never have taken there. But then the poor kid had to fend for himself.

This is the part that gets me, if you are living in Australia, isn't that now your home country? If you consider some other country as your home country and think you should go there if war breaks out, then why come to Australia in the first place? If it was for a better life for your children then don't take them back with you to the place you feel is worse than Australia .....

In a lot of cases their "Home Country" is their "Birth Country" especially if they spent their youth there.
And as you know, and I found out, to separate the two can be a very hard thing to do, especially for a lot of people of European descent:?

I still find it horrifying that third generation born in Aus of Aus parents and grandparents, will tell you that they are Lebanese. Regardless of how far down the line, these families may have citizenship here, but they will be totally Lebanese. Their culture and food are the same as the home country and a lot of this problem is why Sydney is having so many gang wars. The names speak for themselves...Lebanese Lebs.

Please don't take offence if you happen to be of Lebanese decent, but my observation is totally accurate from ten years working with those families and now having another Lebanese family next door, has just cemented these views.
