"tanks" with Ruby and Jasper (the old ladies)

Post by Keith Morris »

“tanks” here---
Following the sad event with Mr. Major was put to sleep by the Vet on 08/09/2022 when the Lymphoma was too much for him to continue his happy life. The kind Vet lady from Moranbah was visiting the house every week for just over two months and was agreeable to his continued treatment with large doses of steroids to help reduce the lymph glands swelling and inflammation as he was not in pain. After a period, the swelling of his throat glands became too restricting and his breathing and was causing him distress.

I was missing my Mr. Major as he had been my sole companion for so many years. I was missing him so much that my days felt empty. I investigated a re-home or adoption agreement with several "rescue organizations" to give another dog in need a home with me. Most of the organizations and a well-known association wanted hundred dollars to make a dog available. For some breeds they were wanting over one thousand dollars for a puppy. Talk about a money-making industry----
I wanted to have an older adult dog as a pal, rather than a young pup that would require a lot of activity which I am unable to provide due to my own medical condition.

My trip to Mackay yesterday was to collect two old girls name Ruby and Jasper. Have I got you guessing yet? Ruby is a little Maltese Terrier and is 9 years old. Jasper is a Staffy and is 8 years old and she is a much bigger breed of dog.

Both the girls are well behaved and obedient and adorable. Ruby likes to sit on my lap, and this is no trouble as she is only as long as my forearm to my wrist and weighs two sparrow farts. Jasper is much bigger and is content to sit on my left foot. The dogs have lived together for over 6 years and would fret if separated, so I have now two dogs to spend time with.

The girls investigated every room and nook and cranny and found Majors favorite places and his scent. I took them on a few escorted tours of the back yard to establish their boundary and introduce them to the mango tree and other 'pee' places. We spent the first night in their new home watching Judge John Deed on the TV, and just getting to be familiar with each other. Little Ruby growls or barks at the slightest outside noise and will make a good watchdog for me. Jasper responds to her alarm and offers her bulk in support.

The previous owner has to move out of her rental house as the rent has increased so much that she can't afford to live there any longer. She is returning to Tasmania to live with her parents and can't take the dogs with her. This is the way things are in the Coal Mining area of the Central Highlands of Queensland with rents in Mackay average around the $500 to $600 per week and less than 1% vacancy.

I'm now 85 years of age and living in WA, single (gave up looking), white hair, no teeth, no address, no money, no worries.

That put a spanner in the works of 'our' plans now didn't it! ??
Guess I'll have to pop up and see you and your family now?

The kettle is always on at the Dysart Bunker. I can bake a Sultana Loaf cake ---no good on the scones, they turn out like lumps of cement.
You can even have a nurse of Ruby.
I sent a forward photo of the dogs taken by my housekeeper to your number ending 7834. If that is the wrong number, I can send the pic to number ending 5690. Could you please post it onto the forum for me and Dot.

Great news, Tanks!

We know that ‘lost’ feeling after you lose a long-term companion.

Our love to Ruby & Jasper. Give them both a special hug from us. (We’re sure you will be happy to do that. 😀)
❤️ One for Ruby…
❤️ One for Jasper…
❤️ One for you!
Regards & God bless,
Ray

Well, Tanks.... mate. Better get out the camp stretcher pretty soon.

I reckon, they'll be pushing you out of bed in the middle of the night.

It's great to read about Ruby and Jasper getting a new home with Tanks. Looks like they have settled in and taken over the house, what a good result for everyone , enjoy their company and love.
I aspire to inspire before I expire.
