Nightly Goodnight Everyone

Drop in and dribble on about nothing serious. Seriously a mad place to hang out. Better to avoid it if you're not in the mood!!! If you're determined to be sad, bad, mad & angry then move along!!!

Dot, you have a message xxx Stay cool down there my dear xxx

Robert, you are right, my kiln does get worked very hard and this was probably just a matter of time. I will try again once the weather calms down, but not holding my breath.

The hot weather has really stuffed me. I did very little around the house except trying to clean off the filth from some windows and doors. They will need to be re-done soon. Takes forever to get them clean here. Power station grime is very nasty on the glass and we are breathing that filth. Spent a few hours doing internet shopping, but not really exciting stuff.

sweet dreams you lot xxx

Check out Farcebook, “What’s On In Rutherglen” and look for a post from Deb Stefanides. Video of the light-up trees at night & a traditional decorated tree by a long-time resident. She does it every year, and it’s displayed in a different shop window every year. This year it’s the Mitre 10’s turn.
I’ll take some daytime pics of the other decorations & post here.
Ps. One of the committee ladies who did much to-ing and fro-ing with decorations will depart for Melbourne tomorrow for knee replacement surgery!
Regards & God bless,
Ray

Dot, xxxx

Did an almost successful kiln firing today. It wasn't as hot weather wise and the controller only overheated once. AFter I gave it a ten minute break, it came good again. Just painful having to sit and closely supervise it. I rang the kiln man and after he looks at my photos tonight he will let me know if he can put a new controller onto it next week or not. Fingers are crossed for a positive answer. If he doesn't have a suitable controller, I may have to wait months for one to arrive from China.

Dot, xxxx

Kiln finally karked it today. After yesterday when it refused to fire over 300 degrees, I hoped to get it back on track. The blooming thing took 4 hours to get up to 56 degrees and nothing that I could do would get it to go any higher. Luckily, the kiln man is a few kilometres away (well a 45 minute drive) and will look at it on Friday. It will fit in the Rav 4 no dramas. It's good to have him so close. His work is mainly on big industrial kilns, so my little "hobby, toy kiln" is very low on the priority list. I told him that I had some orders that needed to be filled for Christmas, so it's urgent and he was kind enough to get back to me as soon as he read my email. I have appointments tomorrow, so Friday will be the big day...bankcard will get bruised for sure.

Some pics of our town's Christmas decorations... taken early evening to show both the un-lit & lit stuff.
1. General view
Wreaths & Stars.jpeg
2. Close-up. Stars & wooden trees made by Men's Shed & decorated by community groups. Wreaths are dumped bicycle wheels salvaged from the tip & decorated by the Retirement Home residents.

3. Wooden trees decorated by local kinder & primary school kids.

4. Light-up trees are solar-powered with 800 lights per tree, made by a local retired electrician who also enjoys carpentry. (NOT pegboard — individually drilled!)

Dottie, xxxx

Brucie2, yeah right. Another cheap kiln, but how would I get it from Adelaide to Newcastle huh? I think a replacement power control box will work out cheaper in the long run. At least I know this kiln and truly it doesn't owe me a thing.

Ray the lights look spectacular, well done.

Packed up the kiln ready for transport tomorrow. So all is happening here.
nighty night

Thanks, people.
The Christmas Decorations Committee receives $0 from Council!
All done with donated material (eg: reject plywood from local factory, solar lights donated by a resident through Bunnings gift card, bike wheels from the tip, etc. Men's Shed made the wooden trees & stars from salvaged wood & ply.)
The artwork of angels, candles, Nativity Scene & Santa was a donation from Riverlander's Loxton Christmas Decorations Committee, and the big (flashing) Stars of David on pallets were made by Yours Truly.
:D :D :D

(Damn. Dunno how to add a short video of the flashing stars. :( )
