Good morning daily

Drop in and dribble on about nothing serious. Seriously a mad place to hang out. Better to avoid it if you're not in the mood!!! If you're determined to be sad, bad, mad & angry then move along!!!

I think they saw you coming Terry.
I'm not sure what you're having either so can't comment. Most do it in the chair with just a 'local' & walk out with a patch & costs nothing at all.

That's why I'm going for the op, they can see me, I can't really see them  If I could get it done through elective surgery, it would be free, but because elective surgery is cancelled for the foreseeable (bad pun) future due to covid and the flu and monkey pox and you name it, cataract surgery is a long way down the list, I've been on the wait list just for an assessment to schedule a surgery date for over 12mths .... so I'm putting my hand in Margaret's deep pockets and getting the right eye done privately.

Must be a serious op they plan to do, nothing to eat or drink 6 hrs before admission, so it's not just a needle in the eye, cut it open and pull the crook lens out and put the new one in, the eyes is also bleeding inside so stuff to fix there as well ..... and maybe the wet macular degeneration makes the job a bit more difficult .... You only get 2 of them, so I don't plan to try and get a bargain priced job but rather a fair price for a difficult repair .... closing the right eye so I can see the screw slots or get the wire in the correct connection is making life difficult at the moment, then add needing a lot of light to see anything but the reflection produces night blindness just makes things worse ..... he reckons he can improve that so I'll spend the $$

Terry our out of pocket is only about $1200, we choose to be in a health fund, knowing if a problem does arise, we can be treated in a hospital straight away, our brother-in-law has been waiting over 2 years for a hip replacement, a sister-in-law waited 12 mths., to have malignant polyps removed from her bowel, each to their own we feel it is money well spent & great insurance.
A friend at bowls had a colonoscopy on the Medicare scheme, the surgeon pierced her bowl, she came home, ended up very unwell, back to hospital for a couple of weeks, took her months to recover & still has never regained the weight that she lost, has never played bowls again. didn't cost her a cent.

Guess in your case at least you do know who the surgeon will be operating on your eyes, good luck for a very successful outcome.

Bruce cataract removal is swift & doesn't take long, often performed under a local, Bruce had cataract removed & a lense implant, reckons he can see better than he's ever been able to see out of the eye.

The old argument of private vs public, and now, private vs self funded.

I reckon we have spent about 90k on insurance over the last 30 years, and we've claimed back close to 300k. You claim more as you get older.

We have saved more than having private health cover has cost us. Trouble with the public system is most of the time the surgeon you saw in his rooms is the teacher in the theater, .I have said it before I would of been dead by now if not for private cover. Fred hollows said he can make blind people see for $25 out in the whoop whoop  I am having my trigger thumb done next month cost all up $500, I'm happy with that.

Jon, as far as I'm concerned there is no argument, I agree with Dot's explanation of belongings to a fund.

Knowing who your surgeon will be is also very important to us.

Every three years I need to change my battery at a cost of $65,000 for a new defib/pacemaker, theatre costs , specialist, associated onlookers and associated wiring, the cost to me is $500, so I'm not complaining. :) The next one will be a lot more in costs due to a rewire needed.  Being in a fund is not cheap but to me it's well worth it.
