Good morning daily

Drop in and dribble on about nothing serious. Seriously a mad place to hang out. Better to avoid it if you're not in the mood!!! If you're determined to be sad, bad, mad & angry then move along!!!

"I don't know what your mechanical background is NP"

Not much, started working on engines with my dad and Stan Jones, Alan and I cleaned plugs and parts and learnt about Edelbrock and Offenhauser engines in their midgets and open wheelers they used to race and on race days we helped in the pits. Did my first engine rebuild at 14, a ford side valve V8 which was in a the stock car the Lacey racing team had and let me work on it. When I finished the rebuild they let me race in the novice events until got my CAMS licence at 16, then raced until joined the navy after the navy, raced motorbikes. A Matchless 500 twin and a then driver on a Dunstall Yamaha outfit.

My first diesel experience was a international petrol/diesel in a dozer and learnt the power of diesels rebuilding and driving that on a friend of my grand dads farm. I opened my mouth saying I could rebuild his engine when he didn't have the time, so he got the parts and said go for it and have worked on every engine I've had, as well as many others for friends and racing colleagues, including go carts and motor bikes, which back then were crazy.

Know about triton V10 because a bloke I know had a 1999 winnie with one in it and it spent most of its time off the road because of it's unreliability and constant failure, until he sold it and bought a converted bus. Also know a bloke who has a winnie with a Lesharo diesel and it runs great who told me of a bloke who has a 2006 winnie with a V10 and says it goes great, but is gutless compared to the Lesharo and burns heaps of juice compared to his Lesharo. The 2006 has the upgraded head and valves.

At the moment have two 12ht engines in my workshop being rebuild, one for a friend after it had done 878000klms and the other my neighbours which has done over 1 million klms. Don't have any time for modern diesels, especially rotary Ip's, in my opinion they are crap, even the modern cruiser V8 is crap compared to the HDJ80 engine, but the V8 has a great gearbox. Love working on motors and vehicles, but don't know that much about them other than how to get them to work properly.

If petrol was better then trucking and companies would've gone back to petrol engines when diesel prices became higher than petrol But they haven't because diesels provide better economy, more reliability, more low down torque and pulling power, easier to fix, maintain and service costs are low. The problems modern diesels face to day, is caused by the stringent laws surrounding emission controls brought in, meaning diesels today end up eating their own crap to supposedly reduce emissions and nothing lasts long eating their own crap. As well as the thinness of metal in today's high revving diesel engines. Tried high revving diesels on a couple of generators and pumps, got rid of them fast as one collapsed and the other constantly overheated. So reverted to older 1500rpm Listers about 20 years ago and never had any trouble with them since, they are still running.

Very wet and windy down here, at least don't have to drop trees for firewood, the winds doing that for me, but its been raining for the last week and extremely wet, can't take the tractor into the paddocks, just sink. But that's live living in the roaring 40's and it sure roars down here. like a fright train coming when storms approach and at the moment they are never ending storms with hail sleet and snow on the western mountains.

Got a wet suit for my wave ski the other day and it's like getting into a straight jacket, they zip across the chest now, no zip up the back supposedly because it's warmer, but it's extremely difficult to get on and off. Told it will stretch, we will wait and see about that and may be easier to get off when wet, but doubt it.

Have a lovely day everyone.

Not most Bernie, just some. Usually in the early morning.
We're you trying to out do NC Geeorge with the tiny cut on your hand. Fail. George has the accidents covered. None of us had come close, yet.
I'm back in Mulwala now, been doing a bit of visiting family and a few mates down Melbourne way.
Cheers

Good morning.
No Dave I wasn't trying to out do George...he wins "hands" down 🤣
Another lazy day...I'm a fan of the NFL...so watched till around 9.30 .
I started filling the new raised garden bed... all the cardboard from the fridge and the new aircon is now at the bottom of the bed, then around 3 rings of soil added plus one more ring of chipped timber mulch .I'm going to also put Lucerne hay in as both a filler and on top as mulch... that's the plan.
I'll probably make another raise bed today... just a bit smaller.
Plus whatever herself wants done today...
Still thinking of the mowing 😁.
Keep safe.
Bernie.

Morning all.

Bernie, could it be that you've got two working hands and they are not talking to each other?

I'm not a fan of double posting.

Windy last night. Discovered, the the hws doesn't work in the wind. Diesel heater is good again. Yippee.
