I've mount the radio and speaker - control - mike on a piece of aluminium flat bar, and using velcro (with holes for screws) put it on the bottom section of the luton, which means it is sandwiched between the top and bottom section of the luton (which we only use for storage).

This appears to be quite firm, and also means if not in the right spot I can shift it easily. This puts the CB radio just forward and over my left shoulder easy for the me and the co-pilot to reach. I've use and extension cable for the mike and have incorporate a golf gadget with a return cord arrangement to draw back any cable slack when not in use.

Thats my bit.

Now to se how practicable it is :geek:

We have ours permanently on channel 40, with a sign on the back of our van to tell others. Gregs an ex truckie so its quite amusing when he talks the truckie lingo when he speaks to the truck drivers. They have different words for police car etc.
Police car - double bubble
Says things like, the scalies are out, (weigh trucks), "name on the truck" plus direction they're heading in, then the warning etc, or he tells them he'll pull over at next available spot to let them by.
We don't get much from other caravanners!
If we want to talk off the general road use channel, we say to move to channel 3 or 4 to chat.
We don't use the caravan channel! No ones ever on it and you don't get road information on the caravan channel, but on channel 40 we can hear the trucks telling each other what's around. We have skirted a couple of hold ups because of their chat.

Have fun with the new toy! We also have a hand held pair, used to use them when we parked up, Dee giving directions quietly, but now we have the rear camera we hardly ever use them. Useful when Dee goes off on her own though, so we can keep in touch.

Cheers
Dee

Greg do you have trouble hearing others when they are within 100 metres of you?
Unlike the old 27meg CB's, these things have no gain to turn down.

Well, job done, everything works, did a radio check and got a response, left it on SCAN while I cleaned up and got the usual !#$@%$#@% local chatter.

I travel with 11, 17(CTSS private) 18 (Caravan and Camping), 29(Bruce Highway) 40(Truckies) on group scan, 5,35 Emergency.

My Location of the unit is "temporary" but seems quite handy at the moment.

Its connected to the house battery with and overide switch in case I want to use it while parked.

Ah now for the next project. :ugeek:

Bruce, no, no problem distance wise....do get a few squawks now and then, Dee turns it down.

We used to have it rolling between 18 and 40 but no one said anything on 18 ! But we often talk to truckies.

We use 4 when we want to talk privately.

Cheers
