I often wonder how much of this criticism gets back to the board if any. I'll bet none!!! Nothing learned at all and no acknowledgment that the board is listening to the multitudes, exception would be the newly elected members, but what of the others.

Re: New GeoWiki Software
I think you can rest assured that almost every remark gets back to either the board, the management in the head office or at least to the GeoWiki team.
BruceQ & Jon are frequent visitors.
While there has been major mistakes done 'in the past', I think they have been acknowledged. Unfortunately the horses have bolted in some areas but there is still info in GeoWiki that is VERY useful when uploaded into your GPS. eg. Finding a Laundromat?

Re: New GeoWiki Software
Hi all
I accepted the voluntary position of "GeoWiki Liaison to the CMCA Board" over 12 months ago and I give the Board feedback on matters regarding GeoWiki. I now work closely with Rudi as CEO to implement the Board decision to develop the new GeoWiki software. There is an enormous amount of work to be done and I try to keep up to date as much as I can but this is impossible for anyone. If you want the Board Members to know anything then I suggest that you should all contact the Board Members directly. Writing something here and expecting the Board Members to read every post on every forum is not realistic in my mind.
I certainly must agree that there have been problems with GeoWiki in the past and it is sad that there have been some bitter battles. The easy answer is to walk away and let GeoWiki disappear from view. We can not change the past but we have an opportunity to improve things in the future. The number of Members who use GeoWiki on their GPS and come to get downloads at rallies and every other opportunity shows that Members want GeoWiki. I think we would all agree that most Members find the current GeoWiki too hard to use but I can assure you that we are working hard to make the new GeoWiki software to be as easy to use as possible.
GeoWiki was always a good idea and we should be very thankful to all the volunteers who created the original GeoWiki and all those volunteers who have participated along the way. GeoWiki it is still a great idea, it just needs to be managed properly to ensure it becomes as helpful to Members as possible in the future. We now have User Guidelines available to everyone so we all work together as a co-operative team, and we have a new user friendly software being developed to make it easier to use. The new APPs will bring all the information of GeoWiki on the road with us in a very easy to use format. We now have the opportunity to witness and participate in the rebirth of this great Member Benefit. I hope you will all appreciate that nothing can happen overnight because there is so much work to do .... but it is happening
I can be contacted at any time via email to geowiki@cmca.net.au
Regards
Bruce
EDIT - I see BruceS posted as I was typing
Thanks Bruce, yes I try to keep them informed of any major issue raised but "almost every remark" is a bit of a stretch LOL
I struggle to keep up with forums too. We are currently at a Chapter Meeting conducting a GeoWiki Help Desk for Members of the Darling Downs Drifters
Cheers !!

Re: New GeoWiki Software
Hi Dirk,
I think the whole point f electing the new blood to the board and a new team taking over the basics of the wiki was to get the information from the membership to the controlling bodies. It's a very big club now, things can't happen instantly and what's been done can't be undone, but hopefully the lessons from the past as learnt and the same mistakes are not repeated.
there are quite a few good ideas within the new look club that are being looked at by this board, that is huge turn around, so let's give some room for them to carry on the turn around of managements views and the support they will need to do it.
My venting yesterday was airing both my frustrations and it appears to be similar to many of those I've had contact with over the years.
I can see advances already in managements thinking and I'm giving serious consideration to rejoining, maybe others will feel the same way and the club can get back to the happy group it once was.
We can't undo what's been done, but we can support the new ideas and help to bring them into reality and hopefully keep them solely for members and associate members of the club.
If the P.O.P. idea does get off the ground and the low cost members only sites become a reality then the wiki will have benefits that none of the other commercial enterprises have and then it would again be a valuable asset to the membership, so all is not lost, not just yet anyway.
I see Bruce Q has posted while I one finger typed

Re: New GeoWiki Software
Terry I think you have the main point there ......... the POP scheme, or whatever the 'official' term is (MPO ??), will only be for CMCA members even if the list of places becomes widely known or even published.
I haven't made many comments about the scheme because I have a mixed feeling about it.
eg. If my property is listed as one in the list & I decide to let 4 of my friends stay here in their caravans & they aren't CMCA members or associates, will my property be 'black listed'?
I venture to say that all of us that may be CMCA members do have friends that aren't in the club?
On the other hand it will be strange not having those Wicked type vans parked all around me!!!
Lately there have been double the number of these type 'campers' using our free camping area in Kingston SE, SA.
I'd suggest the Council will soon shut that area completely.
I'll grab a daily photo for fun. They wait till almost sundown & like birds coming into roost, they flock in.........

Re: New GeoWiki Software
The way I understand it at this stage .... The MSO (Member Stop Over) scheme allows CMCA Members to call ahead and ask permission if they can stay as a friend (for free). This will increase the number of friends that stay at a property but a property owner could never be 'blacklisted' for having his own family or friends that are not CMCA stay ???BruceS wrote: I haven't made many comments about the scheme because I have a mixed feeling about it.

If a property owner does not want someone to stay, it is their decision on the phone.

Re: New GeoWiki Software
If the POP or what ever they want to call the NEW scheme is in consideration have they explained why after axing Keith and his proposed scheme using such shady tactics that they are now proposing a duplicate scheme now so soon after that tragic event which they pulled to try and tarnish Keith's name to hinder his election.
Have they or anyone else given a reason for the treatment they handed out to a member who gave and I assume is still giving so much for the club.
He did a lot of work for the CMCA pushing for new rest stops in Victoria and working on the introduction of the POP scheme and they shot him in the back when he elected to join the board. They announced that he had been removed from the RVT scheme in the Wanderer but were not prepared to give a reason for his public sacking so soon before the election of the new board or let him explain either so this to me highlighted that it was just a stab in the back as they were trying to protect their own jobs and that of their mates.
It would take a lot to get me back as I now have many friends on other forums but have bad memories of many things that happened whilst I was a member of the CMCA and its then forum.
I now use the Wiki camps and I am happy with that and I have my own extensive list of camp sites aside from the camps book and even Wikicamps so I don't think I would be joining just for the new geowiki or rejoin the new forum still run by the same people who ran the old forum.

Brian
