TV mounting.

Post by supersparky »

We have just received our new Kogan TV and I have fitted it to our existing mounting bracket. It is to replace the $99 Aldi job that works great until you move away from the major towns. I was wondering if most folk leave the TV permanently mounted to the pivot/hinged bracket that most M/Homes have or do you take it down and store it when in transit?
Cheers

We always remove ours from the mount, Dave, and shove it under a pillow on the bed. We also went to a Kogan when analogue went out the window. Lots of people complain about the sound quality but we haven't found it a problem. Oops, just realised that is in the old van. Not sure what we have in the new one but it will travel on the bed regardless.

Always left our Kogan on its swivel bracket on the wall. I guess it depends on how big the TV is, ours was small.

I found the Kogan sound to be really poor, but connected to the aux input of our radio using the headphone socket improved the quality greatly.

I think where you leave the TV also depends on where you plan to travel. On the black top, the bracket would be fine but on the Great Central Road you might want to rethink that idea!

We have left the kogan in the bracket in the motorhome and travelled about 25000km on all types of roads including Binns Track, Ooddnadatta Road and many others so far no problems.

Our Conia sits on the bracket with an oversized Bunnings Ocky strap over it , should never need anything else, fine after 2,000 K's to Sydney and back on some superb roads and some that would hurt the bullocks feet that made them.

David I mounted a length of 50mm X 50mm aluminium angle parallel to the wall about 2" out from it. I put some sticky backed felt in the cup of the channel which faces upwards.
When travelling I swing the TV around on it's bracket and lift slightly to put in the bracket (face to wall) and put a weak occy strap right around it. (connected to itself both ends)
If stopping for a short break or overnight & don't need the TV it's nicely out of the way.
Dot & G's idea of dropping into a cupboard is the best........... in a big bus!
In the houseboat I'm thinking of an electric drop down / raise up to the ceiling. No vibrations on the boat though!

Our 22 inch Conia TV is mounted on a bracket on the bulk head above the driver and is also our reversing camera, the Kogan 19 inch is mounted on a swing arm bracket (caravan type) in the bedroom and both have survived 26,000 klms around Australia including the Gibb River Road, since the GRR I have had to tighten the bracket swivel screws in the bedroom.

"I found the Kogan sound to be really poor, but connected to the aux input of our radio using the headphone socket improved the quality greatly."

We also do this with our Conia TV in the front of the bus and have just replaced the bedroom TV with a 22 inch Teac because it was a bargain and better viewing angles than the Kogan.

We have one of those brackets that come 600mm away from the wall. We fold it in for travelling, that's all. Six years on the road with the same 22inch TV/Monitor which is quite heavy, and no problems (touch wood). We also carry a fixed 20 inch phillips up front, and one we throw around outside. I think TVs are pretty tough.
