Diesel in-house heater unit
"tanks" here---
My Iveco Winnebago 'Leisure Seeke" has a built-in diesel heater which has one outlet in the house section
Can any forum member tell me how much fuel the thing will use per each hour of running---just a rough amount to give me an idea of the fuel consumption. The diesel supply is from the vehicle tank.

My understanding is that its less than a litre a night. They wont run if the fuel tank is low

Re: Diesel in-house heater unit
We have a 2KW Webasto diesel heater and it can use up to 300ml / Hr in very cold conditions, but averages about 150ml / hr overall. We are living permanently in our van at present and are going through about 8 - 10 litres / week.

Thanks folks, that info is a great help to me and stops any worry I have about running out of fuel when I use the heater.
This vehicle is new to me and I am still learning things about it. Now I only have to find out how much petrol the on-board Odin generator uses, which is the subject of another post.

Bugger all is the easy answer. My experience is that they are best left on when it is cold rather than turning them off when you go out then back on when you come home. Once the van is warm it just ticks over to keep it warm. From a cold start it takes a fair bit to get warm.

Hi Tanks,
we will be back in Perth at the end of July.
The onan will use about 1 to two litres an hour, depending on how hard you have it working. Our 100l tank seems tobe good for about 80hrs generating. We havent run 100 hrs on it over the last year though.
Blog is well overdue an update!

Re: Diesel in-house heater unit
Tanks,
The diesel heater consumption figures quoted are spot-on with our experience.
We have an Eberspacher unit, I think now re-branded as Dometic. With just one outlet, it can get our 25ft Explorer to tropical temps in less than 30 minutes. We tend to set it at 20degC. Once the m/h is comfortable, the unit just ticks over. Very economical.
There is a cunning set-up with the fuel pick-up from the vehicle tank: once you drop to 1/3 of tank capacity, the heater switches off.
So there's no need to worry about being stranded by a cold snap!
We were caught twice before we re-read the manual to discover that little wrinkle.

Thanks for the reply to all.
I am putting the heater to work and I am very pleased with the results.
Ahh--- the comfort of a warm home when I come in from the cold after taking "Russell" for his wee walk of a night.
