I have REALLY enjoyed getting navigation wrong on numerous occasions.
Coming across the unexpected was often the highlight of the trip to the point where I navigated large swathes of America by compass.
We always seem to have a "thing" that we are making our way to- perhaps a grandkids birthday, perhaps Albany meetup, perhaps just Cairns for winter.
My example was the mardigras in New Orleans, a month away and I was in New Jersey (don't ask). I glued a cheap marine style gimbal compass on the dash and figured roughly the direction to New Orleans then, every intersection regardless of size -and with a general hatred towards big highways- would take the road tending most toward my destination.
What a blast!

Be safe and watch for the bears Bob.
You're one of the lucky ones that still does have a Mum! Enjoy your time with her.
