Very silly question but .........
You're not using the output of the Projecta to run a battery charger to charge up another battery? Engine battery etc?
If it has a common earth it might be the trouble.
I remember some time ago T1 & myself tried using a 240v soldering iron (off the inverter) to solder some wires and it blew the tip off the copper soldering iron. We ended up running the soldering iron off a portable generator. (totally isolated)

Re: Inverter giving grief
Hi, all
BruceS - sorry, inverter, right?
Lent a bloke a serious charger a while ago so he could boot up his batteries - I hooked it up to his battery posts and told him to go for it. He brought it back two hours later, saying the b- thing was useless as it just sat there and showed 12.4 volts. For two hours. Hooked it up to my genny and batteries and it worked fine. "Well it doesn't work on mine. Bloody useless." I worked out later what he'd done. The fellow was a real Richard Cranium.

Hi, all.
Newcastle George - the LED display showed a true reading, which required power. Nice try, but no lamingtons.
bag maker - that would be a no.
