Gas Issue

Interestingly just went out and observed spark etc.

Well there is spark and gas and the gas ignites till the clicking stopped and goes out.

The system seems to only attempt ignition twice and then I have to go and re set swith inside bus. However on doing the the damn thing ignited and stayed on. Doh Doh.

Then when turning off and restarting again, back to the same deal gas flow , ignites and then goes out when clicking stops,.......scratches head.

Sensor needs adjusting to be closer to flame.

Hi, from memory when I had my gas HWS installed, it is a Rinnai Infinity 16, the gas regulator had to be of a larger capacity, 250 Mj/hr, standard Marshall regulators are 150 Mj/hr. Copper piping had to be 3/4 inch. Is it worth a check that the gas supply to your HW unit is sufficient to keep to the unit running after initial start up. Check the gas consumption of your HWS, is the Regulator and/or copper piping of sufficient size? Regards, Hans

Thanks this is a Suburban HWS that was working ok for some time.

I changed the regulator as a precaution and will have to check Mj rate.

I don't even know how one adjusts the sensor, so I would appreciate some guidance on that.

There is a little 'probe' about half inch long that sits in the pilot flame. As long as the pilot flame is aimed at the probe & it gets hot, the gas will keep flowing. It is so that if a gust of wind (Chuck?) blows out the pilot, the gas will stop flowing.
That tin tunnel that the flame goes through might need a cleanout too? I had spider webs in mine some time ago plus some rust flakes or something. I took it off, gave a good clean out & no more problems.

Been away for a bit, had a flying visit to the Gold Coast.

I'm really confused with this damn hot water system, I have managed to get it running but it still is intermittent.

I have cleaned the tube couldn't see any debris in there.

Mainly I see the gas ignite but as soon as the spark stops the burning gas goes out, I have no idea where the pilot light is or if there is even one.

seriously considering sacking this @%%%&^^** suburban heater and getting a rinnai infinity, I had one installed on a house I once owned, worked great and efficient. I doubt id these Suburban heaters are really efficient yes or no, anyone

Has anyone fitted a rinnai or have any knowledge.

In the interim can someone lead me to any troubleshooting with pics haha.

That looks like the old SW10 , it has a sensor on the control board, instead of a thermocouple. You would need to have the board removed and the flame sensor checked, or replace with a new board. Dinosaur Electronics (USA) make a good replacement board said to be better than the original, which appears to have this common problem. OR a new instant water heater as you have suggested.
