Had a uke many years ago, picked it up and a garage sale. Was going to try to use it on some songs in the band, after a practice with it, next day found it under a PA speaker rather flat. Every one was so sad they couldn't stop laughing, so ended my uke days luckily, as I saw it as a way to inflict pain on the band and audience.

Just bringing this to the top again.......
This is a ripper publication that all Ukers should have in their song bag.
This should be available at most music shops for about $38
250+ songs of varying degrees of difficulty from Beginner to Advanced
There are lots more Uke Songbooks around but this seems to be 'The Bible' that most use.
Also have at look at Dr Uke
http://www.doctoruke.com/songs.html
Lots of song titles arranged in an easy to learn format.
2 - 35 (?) chords/song
Huge range of learning and options here.
Have you had ya Uke out today

Re: I saw Ukuleles mentioned, let's talk Ukes.
Lance, I love the idea of having uke books, but my problem is that I really like to read the musical notes as well (helps this crappy singer to stay in tune). And the books that I have seen are so big, thick and heavy. I love the way that Dr Uke puts the chords in a grid above all the words, that is good for this beginner. Have you seen any easy/beginner books with both chord grids and actual musical notes? I am really a piano player, but my piano doesn't fit in the door of the van and I hate the electrical version of same.

Gooday Deb.
I'm not into 'notes', I play by chords.
Chords are a group of notes, but you knew that didn't ya
If you need notes to play with, your best option would be to Google music scores for a particular song.
I can't read music and I'm afraid 'notes' mean very little to me.
Mrs Sgro in Form 3 at Coburg High School was my last contact with 'notes', and it didn't work out well.....Uke chords are my thing.
I bet there are others here who can give you more definitive info.
That said, have you had the Uke out today

Love the way you think Lance, but no. I left the uke at home this trip.
Just not enough space for it in our huge 16 foot van when we had to pack for three different seasons of weather. Maybe next trip.

Excuses....excuses....excuses......
We go away in a Hiace van and manage to find space for 2xUkes, 1xMandolin (soon to be x2) music stand, rattle sticks, maracas, harmonicas and our music books.
We choose to leave the clothes at home
