Sort of right by the looks of things Dot. He's been to the moon and brought it back. Thanks Bruce, now I don't have to go outside to moongaze. :D

Bruce,

I think this site give the Azimuth and Inclination to find the Celestial pole.

You might need to jump back to enter the Mannum ? coordinates.

Or just join the dots of the Southern Cross and the pointers.

Thankyou Jon. I probably should attend one of the clubs for a few pointers in the actual setting up of the scope before I go looking for items.
Once setup to that South pole, I only need to alter one control to track stars across the sky.
Terry might know more because I believe he did a couple of astronomy courses.
I'll read through that & see if it helps me.

I think it works like this;

The sky rotates around the Celestial pole.

So the telescope needs to align with the the pole. Otherwise, when it adjusts for the sky rotation at night, the stars will drift in the view finder.... making long exposure photos 'wobble'.

A bit like trying to set up a 4 jaw chuck.
ie the centre point shouldn't wobble as the chuck turns.

The ol proctologist sounds like the easier option Bruce, a quick "lay on your left side knees up to your tummy. breathe deeply and relax, then you hear him say in a agonised voice and with one hand on your hip saying "Mr Bruce, I said RELAX" :lol: as he regains blood supply to his digits.. Then he gives you some paper towels tells you to clean up and he will see you in his office. :lol: Yep def the digit man is the go. :lol: Oh then there is the bill for nearly crushing his hand..

Strewth!

I can get into sufficient strife with just one jaw thanks,
& the wobbles have reduced considerably with the weight loss...31kg so far. :D :D :D
