A word of warning regarding some of the battery systems coming on the market

Post by T1 Terry »

This was posted over on the AEVA forum regarding a "Jump on the band wagon" battery storage provider who claimed they were using super capacitors in place of lithium batteries.

That certainly isn't something you would want to happen in your RV or home eh

Here is another one, not a ball of fire this time, just nonsense techno-gabble and mis-direction by using 50*C as an example of under bonnet temp and AGM batteries being the lead acid battery of choice for under bonnet use rather than the accepted flooded cell lead acid where they still rein superior for such high temp use.
http://www.deepcyclesystems.com.au/blog ... plications

Under bonnet temps range from 75*C to over 110*C, LFP cells have a no damage upper limit of 65*C for long term exposure and even at the temp some cycle life will be lost. the 50*C graph is reasonably on the level so using them in the back of the Cruiser or in the front boot of the caravan would shorten their life to any great extent, as long as you use quality cells of course, I can't vouch for the rubbish stuff that is flooding the market now days

Just read that last link Terry and that article is a carefully crafted bit of bullshit, even the photo's have been taken to try to distort the truth.
The phrase that says "these little batteries have provided more room under the bonnet" is one furphy, look at where the batteries come to in relation to the surrounds, they are pretty much the same size!

Yes, a lot of distortion/misdirection employed in the whole ad and blurb. Baffle them with bullshitte and add enough redirection to make the reader follow their suggestions to come to the same conclusion as they are putting forward. Take away the redirection, put in the real world facts in their place, and the whole thing falls into heap of B/S that could never live up to the promises made. Then the battle starts trying to get a warranty claim, they never said the battery would survive at a temp higher than 50*C so they didn't tell lies, the onus falls back on the "buyer beware" idea and in the lap of the now wallet injured purchaser.

Agree T1,
Much b/s wrapped in technobabble.
And if you look carefully at the two photos, you can see that the relative positions of the battery ends, the rear bonnet seal and the cap of the windscreen washer tank are the same in both.
For a true comparison, both photos should have been taken from the same position.
Common trick in advertising. I should know... I’ve used it in a past life. 😜
