Over worked truck drivers.

Drop in and dribble on about nothing serious. Seriously a mad place to hang out. Better to avoid it if you're not in the mood!!! If you're determined to be sad, bad, mad & angry then move along!!!

Just about every time we went under one, there was a fella doing some maintenance on them, so who is the rogue truckie secretly wrecking them?

Too risky to go near them Dot!
You'll find out what they're for by letter!!
You are a heavy vehicle so they most likely know what you & G have been up to & how often!! ;) ;)

They are those things that record number plates and times etc to see if the required stops/times are being observed etc. Do they also record how many drivers there may be in a cab?

I'll let someone else answer that.
If the second driver was asleep in the bunk they wouldn't be seen but the eyes in Sydney would know if the truck is registered and being operated as a sleeper cab running 2-up.
Very few do these days though.

It takes your photo, the number plate and a photo of the rig and records a time against it. If it appears at the next one on or over time, it takes another one and stores it with the first, if it appears under time it sends a letter with a please to pay money and you've lost points to the registered address, and stores the photos. You can say you were not the driver, but it does have your photo, twice ;) If you appear at the next one on or over time, it takes more photos and checks the time the vehicle has been travelling. If all the break times added to the time between photos doesn't add up, you get a letter, if the total time including break times in any 24hr period comes up, you get a letter.
What GVM is the bus Dottie? Do you have to do the auto weigh stations as well? I think the bottom limit is 8 tonne now, but I could be wrong there.

GVM for us is 11.25T and no we don't have to do those weight station things. Tell you what though, I certainly earned my licence yesterday.

Dotty,

Check that about not pulling into scaleys here in NSW. Even though you are a M/H its the weight thing here. Not 100% on this as I haven't gone into it myself, but as far as I know in Qld. you are obliged to pull into the stations regardless. They would probably wave you on as soon as they recognize you..... Lol. but better to check than have them getting after you and taking you back for a check up. They now have high speed computers and know who they are dealing with before you even pull into the bay.

Good luck ringing our RTA or whatever its called now its one of those ring around and wait for heaps of recorded messages saying press this and press that crap. Finally you MAY get onto someone in "technical", don't waste your time elsewhere, hopefully you might find someone who may know what the requirement is. Blacktown, (western Sydney) as far as I know is still the technical branch but getting onto them is a monumental task. Telstra is way easier even if you get to India or Malaysia..... Good luck, whatever you find post the outcome if you bother checking.

Dot, I reckon if your GVM is as much as you say and you don't call in at those weigh bridge 'thingies' (at least in NSW) then you had better get someone to check your mail while you are on the road because you will have some nice (or not) correspondence from the RTA wanting some money for each one you drove past.

Think I put that wrong, I meant that if we go into those stations they mainly wave you through when the see what you are, i.e. MH. None have been open all the way up here. Same as the spots signed "Heavy vehicles only" I go into them because that's what it says on the rego plate  :D

http://www.rta.nsw.gov.au/heavyvehicles ... index.html
Certain vehicles are considered to create, or be exposed to, unacceptable risks if required to enter a HVCS. These vehicles, with a GVM greater than 8 tonnes, include:

•Department of Corrective Services vehicles bearing the Department’s insignia and transporting inmates.
•Cash in transit vehicles, although these vehicles are still required to enter the screening lane.
•Emergency vehicles during a declared emergency.

These vehicles are exempt from entering HVCS.
no mention of Dottie and George or interstate rego or non comercial vehicles being exempt, so........
