So there is still one question Q/ how can you tell if a tv has a good tuner in it (apart from listening to the salesman telling you what you want to hear) 8-)

Russell, when you had your problems with the Saturn antenna did you contact the manufacturer at all? if so what was their response?

Nah it was s/h (came with the bus), everyone I spoke to at CP's (Who had one) gave me the impression that their range was limited, if the signal was strong you got channels, never the quantity the non saturn people got.

I tried for 12 months, at every place we stopped, even though I didn't need a TV signal cause we have an auto SATTV system, it wasn't worth the effort.

Even at Adelaide Shores CP (West Beach) which gave us the best reception, it faded in the rain or even the wind.

Nah, in my opinion there's no such thing as they claim.

In my army days I used to set up antenna for the field command posts and had to build the transmit receiver antenna in accordance with the frequency we were using. You couldn't just stick up a piece of wire and expect it to work. The construction and location of an antenna is a science not an art. To combine basic principles for different frequencies etc just doesn't work unless the signal is very strong, then anything works.

I noted this year at Victor Harbor the TV signal is significantly stronger (2 lights upto 7 lights on the signal meter) using the same antenna in the same spot.

I don't believe in Father Xmas, the Easter Bunny or universal antenna.

Russell we noticed the same down our way.
Once the analogue signal was completely switched off the digital one was turned up a bit stronger. (it appeared so anyway)
Whether is was due to complaints or not I don't know.
Was definitely better once it was stronger signal though.
