Well, that's a real bugger, we have 2 x single burners and a double burner and they work really well..... unless it is really cold, then the flame gets very small, so we then either put the can in hot water for a while or just give up and use the induction cooker.
The instructions are quite clear about not using a pot or frying pan that is bigger than the trivet on the stove as it will overheat the gas cyl. You can't build something that is idiot proof, they will always exceed the level of idiot anyone thought possible. Maybe the better idea would have been to just leave then on the market and let nature take its course viewtopic.php?f=23&t=3577

Re: Butane cooker ban.
Seems the non-compliant ones have been banned from sale. We have had a couple for years and no problems. I use a double burner one at least weekly. Have been aware of the safety considerations for years and take a bit of care to ensure the can does not get overheated. At a dollar a can for the gas, I won't be getting rid of mine.Peter and Sandra wrote:NSW has banned the sale of those portable butane "lunchbox" cookers.[/url]

Mightn't be much good if the sale of gas canisters is banned.

Is that all of them in one place now? If you find any more stay one then post a link to it and someone will try to corral them all into the one herd

It seems these cookers are only life threatening in 'NSW', where they are claimed not to meet 'National' standards
NSW like going it alone on these matters, as usual. I suspect they sought a National recall and did not get it. I do wonder if this is more about loss of sales within the LPG BBQ and LPG supply than the reported failure of these devices.
It will be interesting how Wicked Campers (5000+units) react, as each van has one, and they are not banned Nationally.
Will you throw yours out?

Re: Butane cooker ban.
Going out this morning to buy a few dozen bottles of gas as I use them for my flame thrower to light my fires as well mas the occasional use of my cooker when needed.
One can of gas usually last 12 months in my cooker but I do go through some with the flame thrower and the heat torch.
Its another case of us all paying the price for a few DH that perhaps the gene pool could well do without.
Perhaps ban all gas with cooking as it can be harmful in the hands of a brain dead person. No more gas in Rv's as it can be known to cause a fire, eg fridges have caught fire from pilot lights left on and curtains hanging over cook tops.
Regards
Brian

Re: Butane cooker ban.
Not a blanket ban, if you scroll to the end of the article it lists which ones are banned from sale, a few big name brands in there as well I see http://www.fairtrading.nsw.gov.au/ftw/C ... kers.page?
