Use consumer affairs Tanks I know a lot of people don't like them but I have dealt with them in the past and they can be of a great help.
Once you get a report from some tests (agree with Terry) take it further as it all sounds a bit off on what they are trying to get out of IMHO

Hope they are able to solve the problem in your favour sounds like it will be expensive.

Hi Shirley, I am holding back on the Ken Tame route pending a possible claim against United Injectors.
A claim against Ken Tame would be honoured to the tune of $600.00 but would effect my no claim level and increase my premium when I renew the policy.
Keith.

T1 Terry wrote:Hi Keith, have the injector spray pattern and injection pressures tested by an independent injection specialist and have them write full report. The symptoms are typical of bore washing from faulty injectors and the distance travelled for the problems to develop are consistent with this type of problem. Also, have an oil sample tested to determine what contaminants are present and this will reveal the reason for the engine failure.

Maybe you need to get a tilt tray Keith, they always seem to get the Iveco to where it needs to go without too many issues, and they work with Sprinters too. Best of luck with the 2 contacts I sent you, with the down turn in the mining industry they might be happy to grab what ever work they can get their hands on, but make sure they are up front with their costs, no point in giving them more money than the repair is likely to cost. I still think the oil sample will tell all, diesel in the oil will indicate poor spray patterns. The fact the engine had only travelled 140,000km yet needed injector work at all is a bit alarming, maybe a "please explain" on that count could produce some interesting results.

Working on it mate.
The metalurgist testing would cost more than repairing the engine and would not be specific as to when the damage was done, or over what period of time if a pre-existing condition was found to be the cause.

I have just had a phone call from Skipper Trucks Service Manager to suggest that they remove the head, then they can assess the damage---they have tried to get a camera down the injector holes without much revealed.

It will cost me around $700.00 for Skippers to pull the head and have a detailed inspection - however they think that this may be the best way to go, and then they will be able to confirm what damage is done to the pistons/rings/ bores, and estimate the cost of repairs which may be a lot less than replacing the entire engine.

The alternative is a second hand engine if they can locate one. The Service Manager told me that there is a complete wreck available in Perth for $7,000 (123,000km) [What do I do with a complete wreck---when all I need is the motor] and for Skippers to remove and refit the motor to my vehicle would cost another $2,500/$3000 labour. A new engine from Italy would cost $13,000 plus removal and fitting and GST on top of that. ! !!! SHOCK -HORROR !!!!!

At this stage; Skippers Trucks are contacting UNITED FUEL for a copy of THEIR Initial Test Report and their subsequent Test Report on the reconditioned injectors.

***OF NOTE IS THAT UNITED FUEL TOOK THE INJECTORS FOR TESTING ON MONDAY AND HAVE NOT BOTHERED TO CONTACT ME TO DATE.
Skippers Service Manager is going to follow-up on this with United Fuel.
Again WAIT and SEE.
Keith.

He off, sump off, pistons out, then you will know the extent of the damage, a waste of time guessing by just looking at the tops of the pistons and the exposed part of the bore....... but, get confirmation from the injector mob as to whether they are going to foot the bill as a warranty damage claim or not. If you give the go ahead to start work you have let the injector mob off the hook.
Did you get in touch with the oil sampling mob? They would take an independent oil sample and test it, then the results could be compared with the truck mobs oil sample and the injector mobs oil sample if they choose to do one, this could be the cheapest weapon to fight with if there is a quantity of fuel in the oil, or it may tell you the problem was a long term thing due to excessive soot build up in the oil.

If you are suggesting that the issue was caused from dodgy fuel, other users who got fuel at the same place, around the same time should have similar problems.
Water contamination is well spoken about during re-fueling (never fill if there is a tanker in the servo driveway)
Where?
When?
A little ad in the local paper might help?

A lot of questions need to be asked, is Iveco aware of many engines that have failed this way after only 141,000kms? Why was there no issues prior to the injector job yet the engine failed shortly after the injector job? Keith has sent me a quote for repair and part is a replacement clutch as it is soaked in oil... why???? The report says only 1 cyl and piston requires replacement.... yet it was using that much oil? My Mazda grabbed 2 pistons in the liners, yet I still drove it home from Victoria and later to Brisbane and back and it didn't use oil at that rate.
Such a low km engine to suffer that level of damage and need injector repairs in the first place raises all sorts of unanswered questions, is the 141,000kms genuine?

Don't you get a warranty with vehicles purchased from dealers over $5000, or does that not apply to RV's?

I had a 5,000km /3 months warranty from Aust Motorhomes, however I did over 7,000km getting back to WA and I have well passed the 3 month period, so-----no warranty and no come-back from that avenue. I have to cop it all up front.
