Flat towing vehicle

Dot, we are going to South West Rocks here in NSW for two weeks starting on the Australia Day weekend, we were then going to keep on going for another three months heading North through outback Queensland (in the heat) but as the Vitara will be ready from the dealer by the time we have finished in SWRocks we will head back to Newcastle to get the hitch fitted then we will take off again towing the Vitara, we have friends in Mackay and we will end up there some time in March /April then back home to be around for the mother in law,s Total Knee Replacment in May. I had one done in November and I am coming good here in January.

Chris, what sort of hitch are you getting? We are flying down to BrisVegus tomorrow to pick-up a 2003 auto Suzuki Grand Vitara that we are also going to tow. The prices I have got so far for hitches vary considerably

I have decided to fix up a Daihatsu Feroza, its a genuine 4wd truck that can take you anywhere. Its a pity Daihatsu decided to release the Terios later.

Ah ha! But those of us who are limited as to the weight we can tow are very happy Daihatsu released the Terios.

Hi Keevo, look forward to your reports on your new toad and also your trip. Seeing as you mentioned you had a knee replacement done recently can you us tell the pros and cons of that operation as there is someone on this forum who doesn't think they are a good idea.. I reckon he's just making excuses.

Hi Darryl

I think V6 auto will go quite well,the extra power will be a bonus over the newer model, a lot of the reviews that I read lamented the end of the V6, if it was still available I may of been swayed to go that way, best of luck with the search.

I must of missed your post, sorry about that, The hitch that we are getting is the Falcon 2 fitted with the invisi brake system, all up including the engineers certificate is $5790.00, this is from a supplier who does a fair bit of this work for a local major supplier of motorhomes, he came highly recommended and has had 30 + years in the business.

The reason for the engineers certificate is that the imported product does not come with plates, etc.for most of our towable vehicles. They are fabricated here and must have the certificate - all States.! I went through the exercise of costing imported units and, while some of them may be a little easier to connect, the cost was prohibitive.

I went for the Hitch n Go and with a little practice at positioning the vehicle accurately, I have mastered it.

But Alan don't you only need the towing vehicle registered and the towed vehicle registered?
I mean you don't have to have the "A" frame registered or the tow-rope.
That link I put in that other thread only mentions stamping the numbers of the towed vehicle & the towing vehicle must be on the "A" frame. I've got a set of stamps to do that!!
I'll never do it again personally but I see this question coming up so often that I think it demands a clarification.

That WA document is at odds with other States. There is no requirement elsewhere to nominate the towing vehicle - the hitch must be matched to the toad.
