Hi Kappy.
In the Bedford;
6.5L turbo Isuzu with a 6 speed.
Doing about 2100rpm at 90 ish
7.6 T
No trailer.
average fuel economy. 4.5 km/l over 7500 k's
best 5.72km/l (curiously, my best always seems to be heading west from Port Fairy to Melbourne.... it could be that I'm doing 100ks on the Princess Hwy)
worst 3.67km/l (Heading to Coober Pedy in the worst headwind)
I use an app called FIllUp to track the fuel. Brilliant and very easy to use.

Jon, when driving from Port Fairy to Melbourne you are heading East.
Do you know how accurate your odometer is?

Electronic speedo - 1% over @ 100ks. I assume the odometer is of similar accuracy. (but have never checked.)
And Port Fairy is west of Melbourne. Even when I head home .

Hi Kappy,
When I was doing my build, I was hoping for > 5.5ks per litre.
In the end, the fuel costs are just part of the journey. - Most of our trips are planned for school holidays and the fuel costs are sort of known. I'm not sure how it would go if I was just driving with no end destination in mind. You could knock up the k's and fuel costs each day with out actually doing "anything".

Hopefully find some kind souls to park up, or do mindahome, may even look out for some part time work for extended stays in wherever.
Plus I got a heap of product for the odd market I stubble across, also packed my Massage table.
Cheers

"tanks" here ---Kappy,
There is an organisation you can join to get house-sitting positions. Several of our forum members belong to it and get a lot of house minding/parking sites. I don't know the name of the organisation, but somebody will post it on the forum.
Keith.

I plan to have another birthday next year.

Mindahome & Aussie Housesitters seem to be the best thought of.
We haven't had anything to do with Mindahome, but have recently renewed our subscription to Aussie Housesitters for a 2nd year. Around $70 per year & it has been well worthwhile for us. We did apply for a couple of sits which we didn't get, but have easily secured sits for the periods we have wanted them with home owners contacting us directly.(Often before they have advertised). We have had to turn down more than we have accepted because we have already been booked. If you go with either of these agencies, or indeed any other, it seems obvious to us that the way you write your 'bio' is very important. Most of the sits we have accepted have been from folk who had already decided we were the 'right' people for them before even contacting us.
Another thing to bear in mind is that often more housesitting/caretaking opportunities arise once you are in an area. Many folk understandably like to know you will turn up, & I think it gives confidence if you are already local.Of course some like to met face to face before deciding if we are good folk or axe murdererers! We have arranged a couple of sits months in advance. We wanted one in FNQ for the complete Wet Season but got offered 4 months at a wonderful place we couldn't say no to, so came across from Broome hoping to find other sits to take up the rest of the Wet, with the thought that of we didn't get anything else we'd go south until the Dry season started. Reality is we have had more offers than we can fit in during that time. Mostly we have preferred longer sits - there are many available for a few days to a couple of weeks, but that isn't what we want - our shortest has been 5 weeks - the one we are at currently - who could turn down an opportunity to live overlooking a remote Cape York beach with the owners paying our return airfares from Cairns, plus full use of their 2016 dualcab Hilux with all fuel included!). We finish up here next week, returning to Cairns where we have another 6 weeks in a lovely house, very private, great undercover outside area & pool in a very quiet part of Clifton Beach, (15 minutes north of Cairns) nestled into the side mountains/rainforest, & a few minutes drive to the beach, looking after an elderly dog & a couple of cats.
If you are interested in Aussie House Sitters the following code will get you a $10 discount off the joining fee (& gets us $10 off our next renewal too).
SJZX8Q (expires Thursday 12, March 2020). If you decide to join at a later date let me know & I'll get another code at the time.
Not saying our 'Bio' is perfect, but it has worked well for us. We believe that the most important aspect of a 'bio' is to convey honesty & integrity. It's easy to see the 'bullshit' in some folks bio. And so many refer to pets as 'fur babies'. I guess that fits with some homeowners, but makes me want to retch!
