I doubt if we'll get it back by mid January. It will depend on how much damage to the structure behind the fridge. Won't know for sure til it goes to the repairers workshop, next week hopefully.
Cheers

Just need to fit the radiator and then slide the fans in and wire them up. I thought about fitting the rad with the fans attached, the back said "Ya dreamin' " there is no way I could lay on my back and lift that lot into place, so fans back off and they will go in after the radiator is up in place ....

800mm top to bottom and 780mm wide, the photos don't give a proper idea of the size, but that is 2 x EL V8 radiator thermofan assembles

Terry, are you going to switch them on/off as banks or just 1 on all on type thing.
Cheers

Maybe wire them up with a reverse polarity switch for emergency breaking.
Caterpiller have fans you can reverse direction to blow in dirty conditions.
Jokes aside it may pay to have a slight delay between each one to avoid blowing fuses.

No idea what happened there, I got the dreaded forbidden to view message .... I will try again

Thinking of wiring then diagonal for the air con on, a thermostat switch on the thermostat housing and another on the transmission cooler to bring all the fans in if either sense an abnormal high temp.

Bruce, each fan will be wired separately with it's own fuse and relay, to avoid the "one out, all out problem" I don't think I'll try the bl*w j*b idea though

A few more photos of progress post nap and until the neck and back said it was time to call drinks and dinner

Finish extending the fan wires in the morning, then, hopefully, I can slide it into position from the top down and offer the rad up into place

Can't believe it took an entire day just to wire the fans to a 4 spade plug for the positives and all the negatives together and into an 8 B&S cable, then the matching female terminals in the matching plug. Half the day was spent trying to get the terminals out of the plugs so only positive cables went to the two plug halves.

Anyway wired up and load tested, each fan draws 15 amps running, anyone want to guess the current with all 4 fans starting up at the same time?

Errrr...
Inrush current about 50A each fan.
So around 200 all together.
What's that smell? Oh oh .....

Close, 160 amps for around 2 secs while they come up to speed ..... That smell is hot air mixed with a variety of oils, coolant and aluminium oxides  The 8 B&S cable can handle that easy enough, 4 x 50 amp fuses should be enough protection and safe overload capacity to avoid premature fuse failure.

Even allowing for 70% alternator efficiency, that's less than 1 kw load on the belt, that huge fan must have loaded it more than that .....

I guess it will be a "wait and see" if the plan works or is a dismal failure .....

You'll need to turn them on in a staged sequence.

It's not the belt that you need to worry about... it's the battery voltage drop and the engine computer shutting down is the concern.

Good luck.

I'll probably power it from the house battery so the fans can run for a while after the engine stops to avoid draining the start battery, won't have time to eliminate the start battery this time, I've postponed the rego inspection for a week
