Prof1 why are you putting those fans in? On the way to Monarto on the bend where you turn L) on the weeping corner before you get to the church on R) there is a set up like your doing but with smaller shipping containers and the white cover. Then there is a car graveyard on the Monarto Rd, and it also has an old bus on the front of the house. ?? same council?.

No, that is the same council as you have I believe .....

Country areas they seem to ignore a lot, but 1/2km from Mid Murray council main office, not quite so much

The radiator and fans are now fitted in the Winnie ..... this is the reason Dottie
Winnie thermofans on radiator added clearance.jpg
If you enlarge the photo, you can see the snout of the water pump in the centre of the fan pulley and the amount of room between that and the fans.

With the original fan that screws onto that water pump snout and the original fan shroud, you can't even get your hand in there to pick up a dropped socket, it required a magnet on a string to fish around for over an hr to get it back out when I was doing the first lot of engine work.

It was impossible to get in there to remove the fan or the fan shroud so I could get to the failed water pump, so everything had to be removed from the front of the Winnie, lower body panel and all, just to get the radiator out enough to remove the fan shroud, then the radiator, then a spanner I had to make to fit the hex head that screwed onto the water pump snout. Once I got that loose, the rest was easy.

With the room there now, I can replace a fan belt if needed, the water pump, even the fan and radiator to access the timing cover to be able to remove the heads if I need to ..... none of that is possible with the original fan and fan shroud .....

AC condenser is in and trans oil cooler is part way in, a couple of bracket things got a coat of paint that needs over night to dry.

Now to track down a receiver drier that doesn't have to come from the USA, it would be at least the new yr before it arrived and probably end up costing over $100 ..... if the earlier Ford XA, XB, XC unit fits, I might be able to get it regassed before the Balranald trip ....

Tried local for the receiver drier, no one had one, tried a few places in Murray Bridge, they could get one in, take about 5 days, $89 + GST, close enough to the same $100 mark, just quicker than from the US, tried another spot suggested Murray Bridge Auto Spark .... not only had one on the shelf, $13.93, near fell over

Yeah, later  Cool drink and nap time ......

Tried the flapper wheel on the angle grinder to reduce the curled edge on the fan blade, some must have come off because I've got in both eyes now, so much for the safety glasses  Still managed to slice a hole in the bottom radiator hose, so more needs to be removed.

The header tank cleaned up ok and it is now fitted, the air cleaner is in, wired up and hoses connected, just need to fix this fan problem, then the bottom radiator hose can go on (slightly shortened), fill it with water and start it up .... hopefully

If all that goes ok, the front of the body can go on, headlights and sidelight/indicators and the bull bar ....... then it only leaves fitting the LPG tanks

Not going to advise on methods of reducing the diameter of the fan path. I see how problems could result.
Balance being the main one.
Will it spin ok once the hose is removed?
A good coarse file?
5" angle grinder with thin cutting disc & spin fan by hand initially?
Try running Winny with that one not engaged?
Goʻd luck!
Cooler yet?

Tried lots of idea, the file didn't seem to cut into it ..... not enough to show black plastic on the file teeth anyway. Tried a new 1mm thick cutting blade with the blade turning in the opposite direct to the fan when it was running .... it just formed a hard black plastic layer around the fan ..... it is mega tough plastic.
Back to the flapper disc and goggles this time, the eyes appreciated that. Got it down far enough that I could spin the fan by hand with the hose on. Then I positioned the stainless hose clamp so the band was covering the area where the fan would hit .... tried that seemed ok.

Added 14 ltrs of distilled water and 10 ltrs of Penrite 500,000km coolant, so a good strong mix, started it up, fired second turn and ticked over lovely, idled for 20 mins before the thermostat opened, then it held in the centre of the temp gauge, where it normally sits, for another 20 mins ..... very happy with that.

Margaret was impressed with how quite the engine was now .... and I didn't even have to prompt her to say it

The down side, I can hear the tappet rattle now  but Margaret can't, so I'm not going to point out that noise to her 8-)
