Nightly Goodnight Everyone

Drop in and dribble on about nothing serious. Seriously a mad place to hang out. Better to avoid it if you're not in the mood!!! If you're determined to be sad, bad, mad & angry then move along!!!

Deb,
Could you please post a few pictures of the WB waterfront shopping area?
Been a few years since I revisited my home town, and Google Maps pics are a few years old.
Last visit was a fly-through returning to Vic before a Covid border closure… didn’t get a chance to see our old house, and 90% of the shops were closed.
Where is the shop that has your chair?
Regards & God bless,
Ray

Dot, wine and beer are clear enough.... I loved our visits to those markets Dot and yes I think we will have to add them to our agenda. As much of the time will be in the gardens, I am going to have to let his lordship plan a few visits to places too. Other wise it would be a waste of buying a plane ticket for him.  Bet you are happy to not need to rush into town tomorrow xxxx

With all the super strong winds that have been blowing us to shreds, we both woke up with incredibly sore heads. He had to take the necessary drugs and sleep it off, while I just slowed it off. I can't sleep in daylight hours, but he can. So it wasn't the day to go shopping after all.

Ray, I think you would be very disappointed with the bay. Many of the shops in the waterfront strip are just run down and unattractive. Many are closed. Most of the shopping in that area now is up the road and behind the big pub, and spread out over that end of Hillsborough Road. We are heading up to Office works. It's on Hillsborough Road somewhere, I can't even picture where it is. His lordship has an amazing built in radar, and we will head off through the back of Windale, on some bypass and we will be at the right spot in about 40 minutes. If we get there tomorrow, I will try for some pics, but can't guarantee anything, I am merely the passenger on these big runs.

sweet dreams xxx

I used to ride my bike to Gateshead HS via Windale.
Saved climbing the Charlestown hill! 🥵
Also picked up a mate who lived there to do the last couple of (then) miles to school together.
(I was faster. 😁)
Still interested in seeing how WB has changed…
When we moved there I was 5.
Town had a General Store (everything behind the counter — not supermarket style), a Newsagent/PO & a Wine Bar (bottle sales only, not a pub license).
That was the entire CBD! 😳
General Store was on Lake St cnr, Wine Bar on King St cnr, PO about the middle. Vacant land between.
It was a Big Event when the PMG built a BRICK telephone exchange behind the weatherboard PO & employed a telephonist! (I think there were about six people in town who had telephones in their homes.)
I moved to Muswellbrook for work aged 17.
By then the whole Esplanade was built up.
Regards & God bless,
Ray

Well I thought I was going to have a well deserved sleep in after the past week. Wrong, George was standing at the bedroom door using my walker calling for me to wake up to help him. His leg was so painful he couldn't stand for very long without support. He even asked for my Endone so I gave him just 1 every 4 hrs. He gets out of his chair and does a little walk around then back on the recliner and so on. I will get AJ to see him tomorrow, he can't go on like he is. Can't even get comfortable in the bed so the chair it is. So today has been spent inside out of the heat and the same tomorrow if the heat is the same. Hope all our sickies are doing ok. Goodnight everyone x :D Goodnight Chuck x :D

Dot, hope you get young George sorted before you go off to the other side of the world! Fingers crossed that AJ has a cunning plan and can fix the problem asap xxxx

Ray, thanks for the memories. I grew up in Belmont and you are talking about my stomping ground. It was all those things. Even Belmont shopping centre has patches when it feels derelict and then it comes good for a while again. Covid did nothing for these small shopping centres.

We still haven't traveled across to Office works, we both just felt really flat, with no energy. It is stinking hot, like January is meant to be. Decided to get ourselves more healthy and just have a relaxing day. I ironed his jeans (all 3 pairs of them) so that he looks a bit more cared for. I followed that up by making luggage labels for our suitcases. I am intending to slap them on with a lot of thick clear tape. He reckons using cable ties would be better for the laminated labels. I reckon we will do both. Never give anything a chance to go amiss on this trip.

stay safe out there, drunks about for Aussie Day tomorrow and Monday.
Night all xxx

Deborah, I know you mentioned that you haven't flown for about 20 years. I've done a lot, internationally and locally. If I can share some experience and advice about luggage handlers. Esp' at Australian airports.

I really don't think at glass luggage labels are a good idea. They might look pretty at the check in desk, but after that, they just become handler's bait. Even laminated glass will be risky.

Maybe some plastic ones might be better???

Luggage chuckers is what they are. My suitcase was never missed with a huge Holden sticker on it but as we know they ain't no more so just loud ribbons will be good enough.. Another day of nothing going on outside , too dam hot. AJ was not well today but she will see G tomorrow. One thing that has come out of G being incapacitated is that it has proven to him that there is far too much for one person to manage this place. it has taken all my effort to get things done. . My new glasses dropped a screw and Lense dropped out , another trip to Mt Barker to get that fixed, G has every other size but the one needed. Shirley it sounds like you had a good Aust day with all that food about. Got some beautiful yellow peaches fresh off the neighbors tree, so tasty compared to the shop ones that have been in cold storage for most likely 12 mths or so. As usual my attempt at growing radishes and tomatoes has been a big flunk this year. Goodnight everyone x :D Goodnight Bernie x :D

See Dot, there is a reason for you to stay with us for a long while yet, thanks mate xx Luggage chuckers is right too. We have collected our daughter from many flights and watched the sodden criminals as they toss their way through a pile of ports. xxxx

Jon, you are cracking me up. Good idea tho, maybe next time we fly. Really glass would make the cases too heavy, especially laminated glass. I took to the computer and made cardboard labels, then laminated them. That bait at least gave me a smile.

Well done Shirley, it was certainly a lot hotter than 24 here. Our thermometre said 34 for a while and the reflected heat off the greens would have been super hot.

Well it's been a happy Australia day here. The neighbourhood is full of parties. Our posh neighbour took her guests off in the boat to be part of the fireworks at Toronto. They all came back (suspiciously wobbly) in the pitch black of night and were coming home to a very ricketty jetty with several planks missing. I was relieved when I saw the last of them land back on shore. She knows that we have a man lined up to repair it, the weather has just not been friendly for building on a waterfront in 35 degree heat or flaming gales.
Take care all of you
nighty night xxx
